Hi. What is the easiest way to archive Sky+ recordings from the hard drive to dvd disks. Isit something that is intuitive that my wife or 7 year old sin could be trusted to do?

Use the copy function... remember that you can't watch anything else whilst this is happening so it's best done overnight. If your DVD-R is a Panasonic, use the External Link function and the Sky+Box will start and stop the recording automatically when using copy ;)

Lately I just stop/start the recorder whilst watching Sky+ recorded stuff as normal, I like to cut the ads from ITV F1.
    This works fine.

For stuff you want to archive I would do it yourself. Unless you want to archive to RAM you are going to have to put up with all the ads in your achived material. If you can do that you are far more tolerant than myself.

Another problem with automating copy is that you would not be able to set an appropriate record length using flexible record
