Richer Sounds is offering the Panasonic DVD-LS5 for £250 Region 2 or £270 multi-region.

I've read elsewhere that to be multi-region this player needs some soldering under the bonnet as opposed to receiving a few remote control handset codes.

How would I stand with a warranty on the multi-region since I'm sure that Panasonic wont be selling mult-regions over here.

If something goes wrong in 3 months am I at the mercy of Richer Sounds?

Also, can the quality of the unit (picture, sound, etc) be reduced at all by having it made multi-region?

Just what does multi-region "modding" (I think is the term) do? Are Panasonic parts taken out and replaced with some dodgy bit of old tat that makes US discs play on the machine? Is modding worth the risk?

    Cheers,

    J
