From what I've seen so far...

Journey to the Centre of the Earth is fantastic in 3D. The depth is amazing and there's some great pop-out. I've got Titanic 3D and just watched a bit of it so far and it's very impressive. Have to put a lot of time aside for that one though, 3 hours.

Legend of the Guardians is fantastic it's a visual treat in every way and the 3D is put to very good use making a great film even better. Drive Angry is good in 3D but might make you 'proper' angry because the film is so bad.

Lion King in 3D was pants imo. Old style cartoon animation doesn't transfer to 3D very well at all. It looks like a layer of cardboard cut-outs and of course nothing has detail because it's well, old style cartoon animation. It has nice depth in places but if you're not going to watch it for the film itself (which I liked a lot) the 3D incarnation is no reason to pick it up.

Despicable me is excellent, in fact most of the CGI animated movies look very good. The 'real' movies are more of a mixed bag. Hugo was impressive but not startling.

I want to see some 3D films with astonishing effects, maybe a Star Wars movie or a fantasy movie with lost of special effects some of which leap out the screen at you (I'm in the 'pop-out is not just a gimmick' camp). There hasn't really been anything particularly spectacular released for 3D that I've come across yet.

Think it's just the standard version, not extended.
I read somewhere they put it on 2 discs for quality reasons?

I know it's slightly off topic, but did anyone hear Mark Kermode the Film critic on BBC Radio 2 today?

They asked him to say in a few words what was wrong with the film industry and he said "3D is dying, everyone knows it - so just let it happen!" :)

I want to like 3d more than I do! In the movies I find it is ok by large though in trough would rather have more in IMAX! I have a 3d pj but seldom watch 3d.... I know it sounds stupid but I hate having to mess about with the glasses and fact that it is darker with them! Also though I have a great sound system at times I like my cans on ie when wife abed and glasses don't feel great when headphones. Then the cost.... Paying at times 2x for 3d!

Some games Ie batman and uncharted are great with it but I would not say it makes it better bur adds a little more depth?

Some movies ie avatar disputable me, toy story 3 ice age 3 and Disney Scrooge all look wonderful but again for me I don't know if adds that much!

Like I said rather more IMAX and more 6.1 or 7.1 in moves ie toy story 3 and 3:10 yumma which are great!

I see 3d as current and trendy a thing to do as others do rather than because any one holds conviction. A way to generate more revenue in box office which does not transcend to home viewing! Ultimately a fad like ripped levis before people say it just looks messy

Never liked the 3D on any of my PS3 games to be honest.
I found both the ones you mentioned on Uncharted 3 and Arkham City to be real low in resolution when viewed in 3D on my LG passive set.
Although that Super Stardust looks stunning.

It's on my list, thanks :)

Avatar The Game is surprisingly good in 3D on the PS3 and unsurprisingly average as a game. It's fun to play something that looks great in 3D though.

I don't know I know uc 3 seems bench mark and batman uses same engine! I use dlp pj so may be just that? I know reportedly active better than passive though every day tv I prefer passive despite having an active Panasonic gt 3d tv

Avengers 3 last night on blu ray.

The picture was incredibly sharp and crisp and the 3D was more depth, with the odd moment.

Overall a pleasant film with the odd good effect. Very dynamically shot with beautiful colours and some really funny parts too. Worth buying.

Just saw that "chainsaw 3d" of the kid in his room on youtube.

Now I'm just mad at the studios.
If a kid in his room can do that then what the hell are they playing at?

Finally managed to get around to watching my Titanic 3D last night and it's definitely up there with the best, particular impressive that it's a conversion, just shows what can be done.

I think it looked better on my TV than when I saw it at the cinema earlier in the year.

Does anyone have a list of 'proper' 3d films? I.e. filmed in 3d, not post production? Am getting a bit sick of bodge jobs

Found this list. Not sure if it is accurate.

Is it Real or Fake 3D?

Seems a pretty useless list to me - there are good/bad films on both sides.

Personally, I've long since given up viewing a films on expectations of good 3D and now simply view on expectations of the film itself.

3D can make a great film experience even better and yet adds very little to cinema trash (even if it did take me a year to realize this :))

BBC Olympics coverage of the Synchronised Swimming.

Talk about the true potential of 3D.... I saw the future that day.

To be pedantic, it was nothing to do with the BBC, other than they happened to broadcast it. You could have watched it on Sky/Eurosport 3D too. Actually it was better on Sky/Eurosport as you could have watched the whole event live in 3D, not just the edited highlights.

    Not a 3dtv but a 3d pj at 80".
the lg demo of G.N.A Top girl, the part where the stereo explodes and the butterflys come out, we measured teh pop out of the largest butterfly last night at just over 3 meters, totaly blew us away.
    How did we measure?

Mate went from screen depth and came forward to me with a hand untill the hand was at the same depth as the butterfly.

Then we had some fun where we just stood amongst the butterflys and looked at each other hahaha, it was like we was in a massive hologram, freaking amazing!

Butterflys are at 3.18 minutes, i waited till the largest butterfly was at it's furthest pop and paused it, simply amazing looking at all the bits while stationary :)

Do'nt forget to change quality to 1080p ;)

    Hi :hiya:
Just watched GNA Top Girl video
That is an amazing 3d Demo clip
I liked the bit when the tray of Jewels was sent flying ,you could almost hold them in your hand
As said before why aren't the Big movie studios producing 3d movies like this.
Apart from AVATAR and HUGO theres not been a great 3D movie worth paying the extra to go see it at the cinema

Most promos for 3d TV's show pop out as the norm, its what makes us want a 3D Tv
Its a shame we have to rely on those demos to show 3D as it should be done

    What you watching it on?
On a 80" screen it looks friggin amazing, would be awsome to see it on a screen bigger than a person so my mate could really be amongst the stars lol

I've been reading through part one of this thread, and I must say it's amazing. :D

Recently got a 3DTV but the only 3D content I've watched so far is Piranha3D, which was alright.

I'm sure somebody will have posted their opinion on Space Station 3D before, but I'm working my way through the thread, so:

On eBay there's a couple of SS3D discs for £3.99-ish. Does anyone know if it's the full thing? I don't see why they'd sell it that cheap when every other one has a price of £15-upwards. It does say it's a 'demo' disc, but the description says it's the full 47 minutes. Can anyone shed some light on it as I really want it! :)
