Watched Sin City last night and was impressed. Very stylish, VERY violent and very interesting. There's three stories intermingling, much like Pulp Fiction, featuring some very diverse characters, and there are so many big names it's hard to keep up, but they all do a great job, especially Mickey Rourke who was immense as the huge hulk-like brute Marv. The movie was mainly black and white, with a few colour bits, like a woman's red dress a bit like Schindler's List, and a character called Yellow B*****d which i think is probably partly a style thing, as the Graphic Novel was shown like this, and partly to actually get by the censors, because the blood, and there are buckets of it by the way, is black sometimes, white sometimes (which reminded me a bit too much of Alien/Aliens), but very rarely red which we saw previously in Kill Bill. Actually that's the second time i've mentioned a Tarantino movie in this review, and he's actually "guest director" on this movie, so its not surprising to see it have similarities with his previous movies. It's just a surprise there's no Uma Thurman or Samuel L Jackson in it Overall, i'd give the movie an 8/10. My main criticism would be that since the three stories are for the most part, completely seperate, you never really get any sort of climax at the end of the movie, and i also didn't really like the white blood as it looked like everyone was an android, which is what prevents me giving it a higher rating. Hopefully on the DVD there'll be an option to watch the movie in full colour, but i doubt it.
