Thanks for the review, hopefully the us release is region free, prefer the separate discs and the uk getting less extras again is just annoying

      Unfortunately it's locked.

But you shouldn't worry about getting the UK disc; if you like the movie, then it's pretty-much as good as the US. The same-disc 2D/3D aspect is annoying but not in a tangibly disadvantageous way. And, in a way, we actually don't get less extras, we get more, because the Making-Of Featurette (which isn't on the US disc) is 30 minutes long, whereas the Pre-viz FFWD version of the film is just 16, it's just annoying that we can't have both.

I'll agree that it's not as good as the first film, but it's far from disappointing.

Totally agree with the review Cas, after having viewed the US version. I don't think that a recut edition would help the movie though, the stories are just too damned boring.

To be honest I don't even like the 'Recut Extended' version of the original because it ruins my favourite aspect of it which is the the intercut timeline, and moving the perfectly-timed payoff of 'The Customer Is Always Right' to the front is criminal. If I wanted to see the stories separately I'd just read the funny book.

I sold it on here as I was watching it, that's how bad it was.

Anyone else twig on to what Brolin looked like in that horrendous Clive Owen makeup?

I will continue to enjoy Sin City. I hope to never clap eyes on this tripe ever again.

Huge fan of the original movie, and the re-cut edition, so I'm really looking forward to seeing this one, although I won't be bothering with the nausea inducing 3D.

Have to say I also found this pretty poor, They got away with a fairly weak story in the first outing. This actually felt quite rushed, Maybe some form of DC will improve it slightly?

Definitely a demo quality offering though, And the ladies are easy on the eye ;)

As per, Thanks for the review Cas :)

Great review cas,i am surprised that you said the 3d was good.i will give this film a try shame its not in the 1.85.1 format as the original sin city film so it could fill my screen in 3d like avatar and pacific rim.

That's an odd one, the US version is in 1.85 for both 2D and 3D versions which is the correct theatrical ratio: Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) - Technical Specifications - IMDb

US Blu-ray review here: Sin City: A Dame To Kill For 3D | Blu-Ray Review | Film @ The Digital Fix

      You sure it's in 2.40 widescreen @Casimir Harlow ?

I have the Zavvi steel book and unless I'm going mad it only has the 3d version on it ? No 2d - also from a quick check on Amazon there appears to be different 3d and 2d versions for sale ? Different covers etc - or does the 3d one also have the 2d on it - if so the cover doesn't say that ? And if so what happened to the steel book disc ?

The SteelBook has a combination 2D/3D disc in it.

Geoff, I'm sure you're right. It's probably just a holdover from the tech specs that were entered long before the disc landed. I'll check again tonight.

I believe that some 2D/3D Blu-ray discs don't have an option to choose which version you want to watch and leave it to the player to automatically pick the content on the disc - be it 3D or 2D.

I have it too, it is 3D/2D but there's no menu to switch between the 2 and if you're 3D capable it auto-plays in 3D, you have to use your player or TV to switch to 2D

As a point of interest, the Ultimate Killer Edition box set does include the 3D version on a separate disc.

Both the 2D and the 3D versions included with this edition have an aspect ratio of 1.85:1

Yep if it is 1.85.1 format that would be good news.

Thanks - that clears that up - never had that before - as an idea sounds less than ideal really... but never mind.

After all that ended up watching it most of it on my iPad ironically using ultraviolet - film's OK - worth it for Eva Green if nothing else.

Well i have just watched the 3d uk version don't known if any differences from us versions, but the picture quality and 3d is excellent.picture quality a big step up from 1st film.but hey i have noticed the bluray quality has improved over the years,i guess the studios are getting there act together with the coding of discs or taking notice to bluray reviews in general.this film is great on projectors a pity the film wasn't better it's still a good watch.

Watched this last night, great PQ and awesome SQ. Mixed bag on the film, liked it but felt slightly let down? Defo worth watching though.

Also watched this last night and agree that PQ was excellent and also thought that the 3D experience was great and used in some very clever ways. As for the film not as bad as I feared but not a patch on the first. I'll keep the disc in my collection but it will be a long while before I felt the need to watch again and that would be for the PQ and 3D, unlike the first which I have watched many a time.
