I thought I had got my head around the HDMI hype, now I have read one or two post's that have left me confused again.
Is it true that at present even DVD Players with HDMI out sockets are only outputting the same resolution as they would from the Component sockets on Prog scan, and therefore. If you only use your Plasma for watching DVD's until films are released on either of the 2 HDMI formats you wont get any benefit from a HDMI capable screen compared to one that is not.
Say for instance the Panasonic TH42PE50 compared to the TH42PE500 playing a DVD or have I got the wrong end of the stick.

some dvd players, like the denon 2910 have a built in scaler and allow you to output 720p, 1080i on the hdmi output.
