You need to be looking at the onkyo 605, bottom line is without analogue outs on the PS3 you need an amp that can do LPCM over HDMI

I don't believe so, you've got to be pretty careful with all this with regards amps and make sure it does Audio over HDMI, a lot of amps will do HDMI switching but they won't carry the high definition audio formats a lot of people have been caught out by this. It's the main reason that onkyo have been selling so many of the Onkyo 605's because it's an affordable receiver with HDMI 1.3 and can do the HD Audio over HDMI. I'm no expert but if you want denon you are probably looking at the denon 3808

In the 'old' range the Denon 2307 and upwards would handle LPCM over HDMI. I'm not sure what the equivalent numbers are for the this years Denons.

Do check out the 3200ES receiver and the models above from Sony. Mine works and sounds great with my PS3, :smashin:

    Big smiles,

    Andy.

I just read somewhere else (I am not sure about the rules for mentioning other sites, so 'no names, no pack drill') that 'The AVR-1908, on the other hand, offers true HDMI switching with audio,' - I don't know if this means LPCM audio, maybe sp_harris or dazza74 would know.

For info, the 'on the other hand' was in comparison to the 1508 and 1708 which only did video switching.

The 1908 will be a better match for your 1930 than a non-Denon amp, but the new (xx08) amps have significantly different styling to last years models - they've gone all wavy.

just go to Denons website, pick a machine, check out the detailed specs, if its got a dot for LPCM then it will handle content from the PS3 if the PS3 decodes first to PCM then outputs via HDMI....
