Sim2 C3X Lumis Host Lens

Hi, Im hoping if anyone can offer some assistance.

I have a lumis host and have installed the projector in a motorised lift recessed into the ceiling. However I got the throw calculation wrong and the now the picture is too small on the screen. The projector is about 4.8m from the screen and I need an image of 3.3m in width.

My current lens wont zoom in that far so the only alternative is to change the lens to a T1. I can’t move the projector as that would work out far too expensive now.

So my question is, do all sim2 c3x projector lines use the same kind of lens? Will a C3X lite T1 lens fit into my lumis host? Or does it have to be a particular type of T1.

Im also finding it difficult to source the lens. So any help in finding one would be greatly appreciated.

I looked at this a while ago and yes, I think I found that a T1 lens from any C3X would fit. The best option is to look for a defunct lite unit. These were really rare when I looked a few years ago though and are probably even rarer now.
I presume you have a batcave? I always wanted a Sim2 and eventually managed to locate an HT3000E off the bay which I bought to compare to my Epson 9300. Alas I had to concede that the Epson won on points mainly because the Sim didn’t have enough brightness to work in any room with ambient light, had a noisier fan and all the HDMI switching was so outdated. They were wonderful projectors in their day though, especially the C3X and the movement handling was way better.

I managed to locate a specialist who deal with Sim2. Luckily he has a T1 in a test machine of his and is prepared to do a swap with my T2 for around £500 which I think is pretty reasonable given that from new these cost around £2-3k.

I actually don't have a Batcave! Its hidden in my living room. Although the brightness of the Lumis Host is pretty impressive and whilst having a dedicated cinema room would really make the image pop I just didn't have the space to make one.

I am looking to upgrade but I am leaning towards the Sony laser projectors. I don't know how these compare but are much more reasonable in terms of cost.

Sounds like a great solution - well done. Your Lumis is probably a lot brighter than the Ht3000E I tried which really didn’t work in my living room at all. Colours are so natural on the SIM PJs I’ve always found, I’m not that sure about the wider colour gamut on these modern projectors which seems to look less natural and usually means sacrificing brightness. Sony are OK and have all the modern features but I still love the vintage SIM2 image when it’s dialled in.

I am a novice projector owner and have purchased a SIM2 C3X 1080p about 2 years ago - got a bit of a bargain. Anyway, I’m just finishing my dedicated home cinema and am nearing the point when I install the projector.

Was it easy to set up? - is it a big ‘No no’ to use keystone correction? And if so how hard is it to install it without needing to use keystone correction?

And can I ask which dealer or contact you have? - I’m wondering if I need to get it professionally calibrated or whether I’ll be able to manage on my own.

Nice projector. It was no more difficult to setup my HT3000E than any other projector I have had to be honest. Best try to avoid using keystone - play around with mounting it temporarily where you intend to put it and see if there’s enough lens shift. You can use a longer or shorter ceiling mount as required. These are not as quiet as some modern projectors so if it can be a good distance from your seating position that would be good.

Definitely get it calibrated, but I have to admit I don’t know anyone with specific SIM experience in that field. Any good calibrator should be able to cope with it although these DLPs really benefit from a bat-cave to achieve acceptable contrast.

I’m lucky enough to have a dedicated room that I’ve designed and built from the ground up - it does have a window and French doors but I’ll be having custom curtains made for both as black out and Accoustic dampening elements. It’s as dark as it can be without going black. I’m not having velour on the fceiling and walls so there willl be a bit of a reflective element but it shouldn’t be too bad. The surrounds and height speakers are overkill but I got em for an absolute song.
