Sim Card Registration Failed

hi there, can anyone help me? i have been offered a great deal on a phone from ebay, it is a Nokia N78 and everything works fine with the phone but whenever a simcard is inserted the message 'Sim Card registration failed' is displayed, can this be fixed? can i fix it myself or will it need to be taken to a mobile repair shop?
sorry i dont have much more info as i dont have the phone

I think this happens when a phone is locked to a particular network, i.e your phone may be locked to say Vodaphone, but you put in a SIM card for a different network.

You may need to get your phone unlocked so you can use it on other networks.
