This may sound a bit dumb but I need to connect to a DVD recorder via S-Vid (2 scarts on DVD already tied up) I'm also connecting the other end to a cable box with no S-Vid out. So I plan to buy a scart out and S-Vid in. Does this carry sound as well or just picture. Sorry this is long winded but it's flipping hot round here this afternoon and the brains prattling away and not getting to the point. Nice weekend everyone.

No. An s-video lead cannot carry sound.
If you click on this link http://www.proav.cc/index.html then on s-video pinout you will see why.
There are not enough pins !
You can probably get an adaptor that has phonos + s-video plug one end & a SCART with the s-video & audio connected at the other.
