Hi guys

just thought I would be a bit silly and ask the question:

Does anyone think that Panasonic will develop a PJ that will be 1920x1080 for 1080p Hi def - perhaps an AE700?! How long do you think it will be before PJ's at this resolution are affordable?
I suppose when HD-DVD is out - so 2 years...?

Can't see Panasonic being first to the market with a true HD panel PJ. Sony got there first with the Qualia.

No real logical step between 720 & 1080 either unless they go for 1440x800 (810) or 1600x900 etc.

At least the resolution "oneupmanship" will end when we do get to proper 1080 res units. Interesting to see their & other manufacturers plans with the new ranges end of this year.

:smoke:

Hi Kramer

Why is ther no real logical step between 720 & 1080 unless they go for 1440x800 (810) or 1600x900 etc?

I would love to be able to see some of the WMV 1080p demo's on a true 1080 res PJ!

Because HD material is either 720p, 1080i or 1080p. We have 720 panel projectors already. Anything with panels/resolution between 720 & 1080 will require either upscaling or downscaling of the HD signal.

Going from 856 > 540 > 720 (Panasonic AE100/300/500) made sense but I don't really see major benefits going 720 > 800 > 940 > 1080, or whatever. 720 > 1080, now that would be nice.

What do we want? 1080 res panels! When do we want them? Now!

:D

Maybe in the short-term... but what's the next step after HD? How much resolution do you need before you can reproduce pretty much all of the info captured on film?

Come to think of it, how about IMAX home PJs?

Or, will the next step be 3D projectors like in e.g. Minority Report?

Maybe once they stop trying to outdo each other with panel sizes, they will start making bulbs that last a reasonable amount of time :p :D
