Im looking for a way to make this into a wireless media centre,by intergrating a wireless bridge into my latest project, and im looking for recomendations on what to use,

heres what ive done so far......Take one Dv717 case

changed leds to blue, internal wireless controllers green status leds and dvd dongle,2x 80mm silent fans 160gb hd running latest xbmc @720..

It would be nice to have the wireless bridge.
anyone got any info on these?? needs to be quite small as i would want it internal.

I do. Using my mate's netgear WGE111 at the minute and waiting on my SMC 108Mbps bridge arriving, supposedly today according to Parcel Force's tracking service. What do you want to know for?

Well, the Netgear WGE111 is TINY!, about 4cm wide, 2 deep and 1 high with a little 3cm antenna on the back. I can't say yet what size the SMC is because bloody Parcel Force haven't delivered it yet  .

The only problem I can foresee is interference from the Xbox electronics themselves. Don't forget, the Xbox casing has a tin shield entirely surrounding it to prevent leakage and it may cause problems with reception on a bridge if it is inside the case.

And I got the SMC bridge here.

SMC arrived this morning at 8am. Took about 5 mins to setup, 4 of those being taken up wondering why my work laptop wouldn't webbrowse to the bridge, then I remembered to turn the proxy settings off on my ie connection, a quick fw update and that was it. Connection is even better than the netgear and there's even an option to enhance the signal for distance. It's about 6cm wide, 4 deep and 2 high with a 3cm antenna at the back.

Where is the harddrive and wireless controller/remote dongles? In the case, or have you made cut outs at the back?

Some more pics as promised....not finished yet still to add wireless adapter inside with leds extended to the front panel, also adding rear usb ports to take keyboard and mouse for a linux partition.

modified the original xbox dvd tray to take the 717 bezel.I sliced off the 717 dvd tray and glued it to the xbox one,so i can remove it at any time.

An inside pic....this one is a bit old as i have now added a 2nd logitec wireless controller dongle and tidied up the wiring.:) i soldered the av output so you can use just the scart connection,by flicking a switch you can select component or scart.

As you can see the wge11 is tiny so fitting it inside will be no problem,i just need to open it up and splice into the xbox psu.The xbmc logo on the front just glows blue now,in the pic it shows up white for some reason?? i will be changing this though.

customised splash logo.....:rotfl: well it was the best i could do:D

Any questions just ask and i will try to answer....any ideas please let me know.

Hmmm, don't you get interference cause of the intergrated RF recievers, I know i did when i put one insde a crystal xbox case?...the controller use to go crazy and random times...as the case was shielded in metal, the recievers shuld be placed on the outisde or on the inside surrounded by plastic not metla, but i'm no expert....

    Good stuff!

What did you need to do to splice the WGA power feed into the XBox PSU?

:D Well after argos decided to sell these so cheap,i have had a few people ask again if i could build them a media centre xbox hybrid:eek: after the last escapade see here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378309 where the guy STILL hasnt even replied to numerous emails, given the forums is a friendly place,i was very dissapointed in his attitude,i have had to decline many of them, but i have decided to do another:eek:

I have started a 'cube design',which has been on hold for a while, but i have dusted it off and will keep you all updated.......promise johnscarlet:D .
It has the look of a mini mac,but the interesting part is i plan on having a small 5.3" tft screen on the front,so no need for a tv!!

I hope to get some pics up soon,if anyone is in the least interested!

    Lei
