    What a fantastic game!

Got it last night, and did the old trick of saying to the missus "will try it out for 1/2 hour then come to bed at 9pm. Got to bed at 11pm

    Felt like 10 minutes.

It truly is a great game, and plays perfectly with all options switched to on, on my modest PC.

When I finish work today, I am going right after captain blackbeard! :hiya: :smashin:

yes, I've been playing this one since before Christmas, and it really is excellent, and a game I think you really have to play to get a proper feel for it. Describing what's involved just makes it seem dull.

It's a good game but i find it gets repetative, and it also gets bloody hard when you go up the ranks, it can be almost impossible to win a dual or a ship battle.

In a strange way, it is a bit like elite isn't it? Trading goods for profit, or taking out other ships for profit.
You goto ports to pick up crew, missions, fix or upgrade ships etc.

Quite similar, apart from it isn't set in space!

It's very much like Elite. I haven't played the current version of Pirates!, but I had Pirates! Gold on the Amiga CD32 and I remember thinking how much it was similar to Frontier

I tried trading but the pirates always seem to get a bit angrey, although stealing ships might be a way to go. The most profitable way must be to kill/beat another big pirate though.

I don't know about the new game, but in the older versions I've played your crew becomes angry if you don't pay them for months - no matter how much gold you've gained or how many famous pirates/hunters you've fought and towns you've plundered. Capturing the treasure fleet or silver train will sedate them temporarily, though.
I usually take the evil way out - when I'm about to end an expedition I look for a fight with someone close to port and try and make the battle last as long as possible when dueling with the enemy captain. Usually, the amount of crew you have will drop significantly, leaving you with higher wages for you and your crew when you go to the bank. I think more crew will join you when you go into the bar then.

Now you take a percentage cut depending on your rank, before anyone else getts a look in. The dancing part can be quite difficult too, although some good dancing shoes really help!
