Download Quicktime Alternative & Real Alternative. These are codecs that plug into Media player so you don't need Quicktime or Real Player installed!

I notice Real Player installs lots of crud- so this can only be a good thing! :D

Quicktime doesn't bother me- I found Real player install lots of rubbish (blooming pop up banners/auto update when I start up windows)

Anyway, them Quicktime alternative installs the codec..it just goes back to Media Player classic (loads up quicker than Quicktime movie player as well)

It's also annoying having several players for different formats- Media Player, Winamp, Quicktime, Real Player (and probably a couple more)

Realtime/Quicktime Alternative use the same Media Player Classic... so saves HD space as well.

I took great pleasure in vaping RealPlayer when I discovered the Alternative ... I detested the way RP continually phones-home without a by-your-leave, RealPlayer8 was fine but the way they rammed PlayerOne down user's throats and removed the option of the simpler Player8 p-ed me off completely.

QuickTime I'm not so bothered about, except that as you say te player's kind of cr@p so losing that is fine by me too. :)

Yeah, Real Player One is one of my pet hates (though I like Quicktime). I never thought uninstalling a piece of software would elict so much satisfaction as when I got rid of Real One!

QT is OK, but I prefer being able to play everything in PowerDVD, so I normaly convert them to .mpgs.

To convert QT to mpg 1 or 2, you'll need TMPGenc Plus with the QT plugin. More info over at www.dvdrhelp.com

You have to pay for TMPGenc Plus, but the basic TMPG is freeware. No MPG2 though - only MPG1, and a 30 day limit to use MPG2 IIRC. Not sure if registering 'in the future' gets round this though. ;)

Cheers. I think it will be worth me paying for it - as long as it's not too much money !
