To cut a long story short, i am on my fifth 360, all overheated with the inevitable 3 red lights.

All my friends/relatives who have the 360 have had to replace theirs at some point.

I have read that the majority of the over-heating problems now are because of the memory chips cooking with no cooling for them, especially the 2 that reside under the GPU heat sink as they don't come in contact with this heat sink, instead are getting extra heat because of this.

Now my latest 360 has a manufacture date of June 06 and ask if anyone has had the overheating problems with 360's on or after this date because i am seriously considering adding/modding cooling to these chips to try and ensure it lasts this time, if there are still many reported failures but would rather not ruin my warranty if there are not too many reported failures.

So has your failed with the above dated newer releases?

I dont think that has much bearing on how old the machine (manufacture) date would be

bloody hell 5. What are you doing with them? Mine was made 4th January 2006 and have only had a few random freezes and the drive making a grinding noise when spinning down occasionally

I've got a launch machine, never had a problem with it... Can't even remember it ever freezing. It's been on almost every day since I got it so has had plenty of use. Guess it's either placement causing overheating or plain bad luck.

I got my 3rd Machine today

1st was a launch model made October 05, died June 06 after it kept freezing

2nd was made in January 06 and died yesterday

Recieved 3rd today wih a Manufacturing date of October 06. Lets see how long this one lasts

Anyone where i can get the forums so i an buy the extended warrenty? I know it's £60 or something but for 3 years cover that means that i'm covered for the life of the console anyway

I would still rather keep having to have my 360 replaced because of faults rather than giving in and getting a PS3 :D

Nothing out of the ordinary, i actually have it near a window which is usually always ajar or on vent.

It should be actually 4 consoles as the last i returned to good old woolworths (new warranty with each exchange), when i got home and unpacked the replacement i found it to be a refurbed unit with scratches and a replaced Ms security sticker (could see silver marks left from a removed sticker).

When i powered it up i found someone elses files and downloaded gamer pic's then it started giving the 3 red lights, so returned it the same day.

Looking at adding ram sinks and another fan inside it, can anyone recommend ram sinks for the 360.

I was the same never a hickup from launch ,and was used on most days, until I plugged in the HD drive:eek:

It started then a series of freezing up and crashing and 2 weeks later the 3 red lights.

So its either placement, bad luck or the HD drive causing it to boil over:D

It was weird, after I bought the HD drive the top left green light starting switching back and forth randomly from right to left every 30 seconds or so, so I thought this may have been because my console was vertical and my drive horizontal, or the drive was too close to the 360 so it was interfering with signals or something.

So I powered off everything and turned the HD drive so it was standing vertical and further away from the 360, this seemed to cure the problem but 5 mins into pro evo and the screen froze, switched it back on and 3 red lights.

Yeh all sorts of wierd stuff once the HD drive is on hey:rotfl:

Microsoft are not keen to admit the 360 has design flaws. I cant see them saying their HD drive has the potential to kill a 360, but it seems that way
