      Great review Cas.
Caught this today after watching the UHD on Wednesday (and the UHD is gorgeous for those thinking about watching Deakins beautiful work - it also has a AVF slip/badge of approval (first I’ve seen from this forum)).
I was worried this would be the second album from a slightly different band and during it couldn’t help feel the nods to the original director/cinematographer/composer and the sinking feeling that it just couldn’t live up to the original.
I’m glad to say this is a great companion piece and I do want more and it does flow straight from the first as you stated. There are some great, surprising and violent scenes, I felt it wasn’t as gritty as the first but a decent sequel. I hope there will be a third part or even a prequel? I’d love a Netflix 10 parter!
Timing of the story couldn’t have worked out better with the current issues/polices in the US.

Can't bring myself to watch this... I enjoyed the first enough to see it twice in cinema and have bought the bluray... The movie works as a stand alone movie, to take the story further would change it's meaning...

However, the idea of turning this into a series, even with the same writer, does not appeal at all... Sounds too much like TV series or episodic franchise toy movie series (marvel/transformers)... It's nice that there is a more adult oriented series, but it's still episodic TV-style storytelling rather than cinema...

      I rarely watch TV shows...

Maybe one for rental at some point...

I can see what your saying and while I said I’d love a 10 parter it’s just because I want more. A third film would work nicely.
There are some great tv shows (with better production values than a lot of film) out there btw, you may be missing out.

All I can say to that is you have missed out on many episodic TV series that can , do and continue to put many films at the cinema to shame .

As mobility issues rule out the cinema I'm eagerly anticipating this one on blu ray. Good review as usual Cas.

Saw it last night. Loved loved loved the first one, watched it the night before in anticipation with my wife, but found the sequel to be 'ok'. Started well but felt it lost its way and the sense of anticipation/dread the first one built towards just wasn't there. Not bad by any means, but not as good.

I watched Soldado on Wednesday (Cineworld Unlimited preview) and was similarly underwhelmed, not up to the very high standards of Taylor Sheridan’s brilliant Frontier Trilogy imho.

Although I’m still tempted to go for a Superscreen encore to discover whether Dolby Atmos + 4K projection improves my appreciation of it; as the Unlimited preview was shown in a bog standard screen which probably didn’t do it justice and I got annoyed when the many low light scenes (which would no doubt look great in a Dolby Cinema auditorium) were washed out by the ambient lighting

I will watch this on disc - trailer looks ok - it's not the sort of thing I'd go to the cinema for though - shame there's no Emily blunt in it - I think a lot will think similarly

Whilst I love the actress, and more of her in anything is no bad thing, her character's arc was done and dusted last time out; having her back would have been contrived.

I was glad to see Jeffrey Donovan return as Steve Forsing, small role in both films, but great dry sense of humour

Saw this yesterday. Some great camera work and soundtrack which IMO matched the quality of the original. Looking forward to the UHD.

Just seen this and really enjoyed it. On a par with the first for intensity. will try and catch it again and looking forward to the UHD. The sunset vistas will be something to behold.

Watched it today.Perhaps a needless sequel, but it exceeded my expectations. The subject matter, the tone, the attention to detail, the acting, the cinematography, the music and the direction were superbly done and it is a true big screen movie. It would lose much of its impact,if made as a TV show.

Some reviewers are critising it,because it apparently doesnt fit their political agenda.Narrow-minded to say the least, the movie is actually downplaying the issues it portrays.

I had no intention of seeing this in the cinema but turns out my father really wanted to watch it and he was willing to pay for my ticket so sod it.

Sicario 2; Soldado; Sicario 2: Soldado; Sicario: Day of the Soldado; Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado; We Can't Make Up Our Minds On This Bloody Title is a decent film on it's own that's better than the majority of crap we see in cinema's, with some pretty well executed action scenes, but compared to the first Sicario is basically a step backwards in every way and it has quite a few conveniences that annoyed me.

But as unnecessary sequels with different directors goes, this could have been WAY worse. I'm still not convinced Sicario needs to be a trilogy but they did a good job replicating the style and tone of the first film so I'll commend the new director for that.

I very slightly recommend this film, even for people that love Sicario (like myself).

Well indeed just went to see this as enjoyed the first one so much.
This has definitely got the usual Hollywood treatment of let’s make it larger and louder with more big bangs and action sequences.
The first film was one that left you trying to figure out who were the good and bad guys. Well as we have learnt the apparently thin line between good and evil there seemed to be no need for subtle underlying plot building it was straight into this is the what is going to happen then blam blam blam no thank you man.(indeed some of the most dynamic ones l have experienced)
So much so this took me by surprise and slightly disconnected, but only briefly as l quickly found myself taken along for a very intense breathless bumpy ride.My more intellectual self trying to ignore the slightly over macho how hard am l stuff. The very blade runnery soundtrack really driving along the overall doom laden scenarios .Yeah after my initial scepitcism l was hooked and really enjoyed it.
Although my girlfriend sat with her hands over her ears with her eyes closed for most of it. (what more of a recommendation can you have)Definitely one for the Av addicts and a must for the blu ray collection

Saw Sicario 2 at the weekend with a friend for an unplanned Cinema trip.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be buying on 4k when released.
Not an original story line but done very well. Think I prefer it to the original but will need to watch it again to make sure and it’s definitely screaming out for a third.

His character just oozes 'tacticool'. Great to see him back.

Loved 'Sicario', the outstanding film of 2015 imo. Possibly because of that I felt the absence of Villeneuve and Deakins far more than the review. That's not to say it's a poorly shot or directed film, the script is put on screen in a much more conventional action/thriller fashion. The border crossing sequence or Gillick's assault on the Alarcón’s estate, high points of the first movie, are never matched in its sequel. There's still a lot to like and I loved its open ended nature. Brolin and del Toro really are perfect in their respective roles.

Hopefully the rumors are true and we get a third film to round things off.
