Saw this at the cinema, and although worried that Villeneuve was not part of the production, my fears were laid to rest. Great sequel which I enjoyed just as much as the first. Now that's a rare thing these days!

Not one for double dipping, but I may just have to wait to see if this does become a trilogy before I part with cash on a potential 3 disc 4K, 8K... 12K UUHD box set.

Left me cold, I thought it was a real let down compared to the first one... well, compared to anything to be honest.

It seems like they ran out of ideas.

Thanks Cas, enjoyed at the cinema and knew it would look great on UHD, so would be rude not to have the companion piece.
I hope we do get a third part, I think we deserve a little more Del Torro, he’s superb and as I mentioned in the theatrical review, Brolin & Donovan are great too.
I thought no one should even attempt to have a shot after Deakins, but credit to Wolski, I think he did a fantastic job and kept it looking like the same world albeit slightly more colourful.

Thanks for the review Cas. Loved then first movie, looking forward to this.

On a side note, I have read the review 3 times and at no point is there a direct or indirect answer for the latest competition for said film.

Good shout, there's clearly been some judicious editing since my cinema review, hopefully you'll find the answer now (as if you didn't already know it!)

Whilst it is a good ish follow on from the first film it fails to capture or deliver any tension at all that the first had in spades .

The Del Toro , Brolin charecters that scared the pants off me in the first film because of how utterly ruthlessly efficient they are are left wanting because they now don't have that other charecter to bounce off.

It all feels a little flat and a shaded continuation rather than its own film .

      Don't mind a final chapter though .

I have to say, I felt the film was a solid three stars. Good, but not great and certainly not genre defining. Without Emily Blunt as the POV character it loses so much, and the loss of Villeneuve as director is felt, with Stefano Sollima proving competent at aping much of his style, but failing to make the same sort of impression, cinematically speaking.

      HAVING SAID THAT...

This disc is incredible to look at, with beautiful, sharp rendering of detail and delicious colour in low-light scenes – no murkiness at all (looking at you, Solo) and no crush. But the absolute star of the show here is the audio. I mean: WOW! I do not give my wows out easy, but this absolutely gets a WOW from me.

Gunshots are obscenely loud, precise and impactful – seriously, they'll make you blink. Atmos really earns its badge here too with a plethora of overhead effects. Helicopters soar over you and land on top of you which, coupled with the discs almost overwhelming bombast, sound less like the distant phut-phut you'd typically hear coming from your ceiling on lesser discs and more like you're actually standing beneath a gigantic, dangerous, booming machine that wants to dice you. It legitimately made me duck!

Good film, STUNNING disc. Worth a buy even if you don't love the film. This is demo material.

Watched this yesterday and despite some decent set pieces I found it all a bit flat and pointless. Nowhere near as good as the first and was definitely missing Blunt's character and I actually found myself a bit bored about an hour in and even considered leaving the other half to watch later in the week. Something decent ended up happening though (can't remember what!) so I stuck with it but ultimately felt like it was a wasted opportunity.

Really disappointing ending that just felt tacked on and
left wide open for another sequel
which I wouldn't have minded if this was actually a better film.

I really enjoyed the film, whilst admitting it isn’t as good as Sicario, and is left depressingly open-ended.

The atmos was one of the best I’ve heard though, even to the point that the lighting in the base was irritating Mrs with the constant overhead buzzing. Brilliant.

Hopefully Sicario 3 will tie everything up in a satisfactory manner, although non of the primaries have it as ‘upcoming’ on IMDB.

I watched this at the weekend ....

Not as good as the 1st one but I still thoroughly enjoyed the film - even if the ended was not overly satisfying.

The action scenese were superbly staged though.

The picture quality was just stunning though - pure demo material ... oh those helicopter scenes

The sound also was just immense

Caught this on UHD disc, and whilst the tone and visuals were direct continuation of the first, 2 plot points ruined the film for me, where it effectively jumped the shark to action movie territory rather than gritty, realistic tale.

Firstly did not like the fact Brolin refused to break orders and help Del Toro and girl, instead carrying out execution orders, but only after his long-time acquaintance was murdered, decide to go against orders and not kill the girl. Motivations and change of heart did not ring true and consistent.

But then, to see that Del Toro survived a point blank headshot execution, is completely implausible. I mean what are the odds of a point blank shot going through one side of the face and out the other, without causing considerate trauma and permanent serious damage.

      Can and does happen though
10 People Who Survived Being Shot in the Head - Toptenz.net

Also it appeared as if it was a clean shot straight through his cheek (although he would have had to have had his mouth open for bullet to not have taken out his jaw).
I thought from the film that the kid didn't want to kill him but to get away from the situation without being killed himself by refusing.
