hi all, was just wondering what everyone thought of these?

    basically i want to:

record live tv using my pb-tv100
use an EPG to set recordings over composite/svideo from my sky box and switch the box over using some sort of IR sender?

which does everyone think is better? so far I prefer showshifter but ive only had it for half an hour so far. or is there a better solution?

    thanks :)

I've only managed to get showshifter to record at 1/2 height. Have you managed to get full-screen, full-resolution recording?

I only demod snapstream briefly but ShowShifter won hand down imho. No problems at full screen either. I don't use the EPG though as I use DigiGuide for UK listings

thanks for the input guys, i've also decided that Showshifter is much better, although not quite a slick looking. digiguide is also excellent, but I have only been fiddling with it on my laptop at work today so havent really seen it working along with Showshifter, but so far it looks like the software for me, and only £6.99 a year is excellent.

One thing I can't work out though is if I can get some sort of IR controller like TIVO's have that will switch over the Sky box to start recording using the composite/svideo input.

    anyone got any ideas?

    thanks :)

I think there might be such remote features with ShowShifter but i don't think there is anything for DigiGuide yet - both bits of software have excellent forums and I'm sure it's been asked a few times before on them

    Hi,

    I use digiguide + showshifter & a sky digibox.

    Stuff you'll need
    - UIRT2 & Girder http://www.girder.nl, or redrat
    - digiguide http://www.digiguide.com
    - showshifter http://www.showshifter.com
    - DGShow http://www.de-bugger.com

DGShow makes a connection from digiguide schedules to showshifter's recording abilities.

Girder connects from showshifter to the UIRT device, which sends IR signals to your digibox.

Takes some effort to get it all going, but seems reliable.

thanks andy, do i really need DGShow to get the recording working, I haven't actually used it in practice but it seems that digiguide and showshifter interface fine without it?

whats the cheapest IR sender thingy I can get to control my sky box with the pc?

    thanks

    Nope.

DGShow will allow you to set up smart searches, and set priorities for shows to be recorded. For instance I can set it up to record eastenders at priority 2, and keep the last 2 shows, unless preempted by a show containing buffy at the same time.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, it is the UIRT2

If you want USB, then you'll need one of these
    http://www.usbuirt.com/
    http://www.redrat.co.uk/

I think the redrat works direct from showshifter. UIRT needs girder to sit between, so is more work to get going.
