There's a sticky hifi gallery, a sticky home cinema gallery, so why not have a sticky headphone gallery. I'll start it off with pics of my HD800s, NJC Audio Monitor II headphone amp and Naim CD5i CDP.

I remember struggling to find a place to audition top end headphones a couple of years ago and ended up going with the Grado PS1000's, look what that led to :)

Holy smoke - that's a damn fine collection of headphones!!!

Just out of curiosity, what do you pair your HD800s with? I currently use an NJC Audio Monitor II but might get an SPL Phonitor soon as my OPPO 105 has XLR outputs, which just happens to be the connection method of the Phonitor. Have you tried the Phonitor?

Have you got wood? ......sorry! ;)

LCD-2’s are being driven by Schiit Lyr headphone amp. I've just been doing a bit of tube rolling too with some Russian military spec tubes from the 70's. My source at the moment is the AK100, but I'm debating whether to move my Mac mini and DAC down from my main system as the cans are getting far more use at the moment.

How do you find the line-out on the AK100?

And how much was the £extras for importing that Schiiiiiit?

I've been meaning to post a picture of my headphones. I bought them back in 1982 and they cost me nearly a whole month's wages at the time (the grand sum of £90). My colleagues thought I was mad spending so much money on headphones, but I shared a mess with about 25 other guys and the only way to hear your own music in peace was using 'phones.

That I've still got them 30+ years later means they weren't that dear after all. :D I went to a Royal Navy reunion last year and more than one person asked if I still had those 'really expensive headphones'. :D I don't use them so much these days, but they are great for recording music on my multitrack recorder; they have a lovely warm sound, but with a clear treble too.

I bought a replacement plug in lead about 20 years ago and the soft ear covers too as the originals had crumbled. However at this rate they might outlast me. :D

I don't think the AK100 has a line out, but apparently if you set it to max volume the 3.5mm headphone jack gets near enough. It seems fine for my purposes at the moment, but I will probably add a dedicated DAC (maybe the Schiit Bifrost) and hook it up to my Mac mini to get full access to my music library.

The Schiit was £439 plus another £10 for delivery. I think there is only one distributor in the UK, and that is Hi-End Workshop/Electromod (who also do HiFi-man gear). However, you can get some Schiit stuff via hifilounge or hifiheadphones (both of whom probably get it from the aforementioned distributor). It does kind of suck that we pay in GBP what the Americans pay in USD. Apparently the margins on the Lyr are so low that it hardly seemed worthwhile selling them in the UK. I am however delighted with mine and still think it is excellent value. It is a really solid little construction. I would love to hear how my LCD2's sound with Schiit's balanced headphone amp.

Is that a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 on the top shelf far left, and then a pair of NCredible Ntunes next to them?
