My mum asked me to have a look at her tyre, they are on a LandRover Freelander. Plenty of tread but cracks forming near tread pattern, worse on the r.hand side but also the l.hand side looks to be deteriorating in a similar way.

She doesn't do many miles but will soon be doing 2hr journeys to and from Anglesey. My dad will be with her but can no longer deal with this sort of situations due to Alzheimer's
    :(

For peace of mind and safety I am tempted to say, get it done.

    Thoughts ?

Also bearing in mind they are big, chunky tyres, can you get any that are more economical and efficient?

I wouldn't use those for long journeys, they do look more than a little tired.

Here's a link to determine their age, using the DOT stamp if its visible.

Tire Tech Information - Determining the Age of a Tire

Camskills are pretty competitive for all tyres, including tyres suitable for 4x4's

Cheap Tyres Discount Tyres Buy Tyres Online & Japanese Import Car Parts Spares Tuning Performance Servicing Accessories

Get the tyre size and select 4x4 tyres down the left hand side, you'd have to have them fitted yourself but if nothing else its a good way compare prices with those who supply and fit.

I use a company called Event Mobile Tyres they are very good.

Thanks for you advice I may tell her to change them, the rubber is clearly aging. They are retired now and I am reluctant to tell them to spend money but it makes sense, and would be less stressful than a flat whilst out and about.

I would say cracks like that will lead to a blow out rather than a flat - much more dangerous at higher speeds especially in a 4x4 - get them changed ASAP.

I wouldn't want my parents lying trapped upside down in a ditch.

    Agreed :smashin:

mine failed an MOT 2 days ago for having the offside rear in similar condition to yours - had to replace the tyre and then it passed fine.

All sorted, she didn't even realised until yesterday... Its not easy "knowing" these things when your husband used to look after all this sort of stuff but is no longer capable.
