Do you leave your sub on all the time, except when going away for long periods? Just been reading Whathifi.com and they say you should leave your amp on or standby so it is "always ready to go", is this the same for subs?

I have always left my subs on or atleast not turned off at the mains and never had any problems, when obviously going away for long periods then yes i will turn the power off.

I can't give you a definative answer, but as per the reply from John, I leave my B&W ASW1000 on permanently. It has been on for the last 20 months since I moved into my flat! And it still manages to shake the room!!

ive got a swtich on mine, that apparently turns it onto stand by mode after so long, but when it comes on or off theres a hell of a crakling coming through it. is that normal?
up to now ive always turned it off as i thought it might damage it leaving it on.

You might actually be causing more damage by turning it on and off from the mains frequently. I leave mine on standby, never had a problem with previous subs this way, and I doubt it will cause a problem with the SVS either.

I've left my REL Stadium switched on since 1994  & apart from moving house,or the odd power cut (must remember to put 50p in the meter),it has never been turned off. It's still going strong, apart from the green illuminated switch not illuminating anymore.

Always leave my sub on, TV I switch off completely, DVD, Amp and Sky I leave on standby. If i'm away for the weekend it's a total shutdown at the mains.

No wonder they need ever more nuclear power.

My system sounds better left on. Except for my CD player which sounds brittle with time.

But after this summer of continuous lightning warnings I now switch everything off and unplug it when I'm not at home. The best sounding system is the one that still works. :D

I will add that even though I leave most of my gear in standby, all of it is surge protected, against the dreaded mains spikes.
