Should I upgrade my SONY S7700?

My brother, who is most knowledgeable in all things AV, (or at least thinks he is!) tells me that my SONY DVP S7700 is a dinosaur and that I need to upgrade to something with progressive scan.

I am very happy with the S7700 in all departments but wonder if I am missing out.

Please advise.

If the device (TV, Plasma, Projector, or whatever) does not do progressive scan then there is no point in having a player that does progressive scan.

Save your money, if you do have a progressive scan tv then it is worth considering an upgrade, maybe. But if you are happy with the picture just enjoy what you have.

No matter how much you spend on A/V there is always something "better", "newer", etc... if you are happy with what you are using now than that is all that really matters.

If you are happy with it... keep it.

However, if you have a large display with component connections, you will probably notice an improvement in picture quality.

Thanks - my gut feeling is to stick with the Sony - but I do like to have the shiny new toys if they're worth it!

TV is 36" Sony 100hrtz DRC KV-36FS70/G

Does that "do" progressive scan?

I am currently using an RGB Scart to RGB Scart connection - would that have to change for a progressive scan set up?

As far as I can see it has Scarts / S-video and composite.

No component input. In which case then, I assume it is not progressive scan so stick with what you've got :)

Is it really true that progressive scan will not work on my 36" Sony (KV-36FS70/G)?

I thought that the DVD player did all the processing and just sent a "better" signal to the tv? Also the TV has some pretty fancy image processing power itself in the DRC chipset.

Does it only work with TV's with component sockets?

Could one not use a component out to RGB Scart lead?
