i have a mj acoustics pro 50 and want to change it for something that goes lower and louder, with more control.

the budget is £600 what should i get. bearing in mind it needs to be fairly compact. does a BKelectronics sub out perform the mj pro 50. thats only half the budget, so i could get a bfd

You what the the answer is going to be Servo 15 if you can still get one.

Or you could pick up a second hand Velodyne HGS - 15

Heres a review of the servo

have a look at the B&W A675 which is a compact sub that will go deeper athn the MJA Pro 50.

Whilst the HGS15 will outperform a Pro 50 it is neither very compact nor available for £600, even second hand

i do need a compact sub no more than 15 inches across.
the mj website says it goes down to 15htz but i doubt it does. i have 2 sub outs on my processor so could i use 2 subs. i has to be musical as i like the high level input to compliment my mains

Please don't start everyone off again on subwoofer measurements :D

The MJA Pro 50 going down to 15Hz is ample proof that statistics can be manipulated to show anything.

The only Velodyne CHT-15 that could be described as compact is one that an elephant has sat on

    Hi john
I owned the B&Wasw675 and imo is one of the best sounding and looking compact subs 600 quid can buy. You wont be dissapointed the asw675 is quite a step up from the mj it also sounds great with both movies and music.
    Cheers Gonzo.:)

I've been looking at the Velodyne-spl800. Which is roughly 10" square. It's retail is a bit more than you want to spend, £799 but you can get it cheaper with a bit of haggling. Some people swear by them..not just the people that are selling them either ;)

av-sales is the place to demo one..they're in kent though. Cor, I'm beginning to sound like Ian now :)

Kent's a long way from yorkshire. although i will be working in the area in a couple of weeks.

i'll bear it in mind. i need to compare the pro50 to something else as yet. the money has come from not upgrading my dvd player so if it has to wait for more pennies so be it. its not like i'm without a sub!

the Velodyne-spl800 and the B&W A675 seem awfully similar, are velodyne making B&W subs?

    just a thought

Not sure about that mate. av-sales have a demo room. I visited them recently and took my projector and dvd player :) so I'm sure they won't mind you taking your sub.
