Should I read much into Comets display plasma's

Tonight I was popping into halfords for wiper blades and nipped next door to comet as I plan to get a plasma within the next year. There was loads of plasma's on display but the picture quality on none of them looked that good. Even the ones taking an HD signal, whilst higher res, still didn't look that good. Are plasma's still that far behind good CTR/LCDs or is it likely the screens were being fed a poor signal through poor [EDIT:mal600908 - No swearing, please read forum rules] cables and were not set up properly. If I'm going to spend ~£2000 on a TV I'd like to think I can have a clean/clear/sharp picture with no blocking, banding or fuzzyness.

i have a panny pv500 and the pic quality is superb leaves LCD standing IMHO
the spec of the pv500 is absolutely fantastic if you can stretch your money to one of these you will not be disappointed, and mounting it on a wall looks the business

I think your glasses must have steamed up coming into a warm shop from outside cold! If you think that that the HD output is no different than your own TV experience, then you should have gone to Specsavers!

I have a Pioneer 436, and the output from Sky+ and DVD (Both NON HD....for the moment!) are jaw droppingly good, and beats my JVC 32" CRT by a motorway Mile! Maybe you should stop going into a Washing Machine & Fridge outlet to View LCD or Plasma. Go to a specilist AV outlet, then ask them to demonstrate plasma with and without HD. Just be ready to catch your jaw as it drops rather quickly to the Floor!

Lastly would you go to Mothercare for advice on your Windy Wipers, even if they had a stand full of them?????????????? :nono:

I've seen pv500 on hd demo and the picture was really good but in a fast moving scene i could easily see the usual blocky pixelization which i didn't like at all :thumbsdow

Is that the norm for plasma?

PQ on all the Plasmas in my local Comet is absolutely terrible, same in Dixons and Currys - so much so that when I ordered my TH42PE50 my wife was very concerned about my choice. I had seen it running properly in a specialist dealer and now that I've had it for over a month she is delighted with it. Bottom line here - find a shop that shows them properly set up and then make your judgement.

Well thank God I didn't get my Pan 42PV500 from Comet then!

AWESOME PIC ...SD, HD fast moving, slow moving, stills, xbox...etc you name it, jaw dropping EVERY TIME. :smashin:

Don't even know why I bothered looking at large LCDs in The Sony Centre, they don't even come close. :thumbsdow

Cool, so it was just a [EDIT:mal600908 - No swearing, please read forum rules] poor set up. I wouldn't dream of getting a plasma from comet or seriously viewing one there but I was next door so thought I'd drop in for a look - they certainly don't do much to try and sell them with that shoddy image quality!!

The HD was amazing - the resolution was simply stunning and it will utterly transform the computer consol market as I feel graphically the weak link of late has been standard tv. But that said the plasma's displaying it in Comet still didn't do a very good job!

The majority of plasmas in stores like comet or currys are just fed by RF cable, and worse still the signal is shared between them all.

Some of the LG HD displays near me have been great being fed by a HD PC.

The thing is High Street retailers would sell even more units if they just put a proper signal into the plasma's.

The other thing against plasma's in the big stores is that there all 42", where as the LCD's are far small which usually means the PQ is less clear.

My own opinion.

I popped into Curry's on Sunday for a new microwave and I must agree that the Plasmas looked pretty poor [EDIT:mal600908 - No swearing, please read forum rules] . The picture on my 506XDE at home is beautiful yet the picture on the 436XDE in the store looked terrible. They really aren't doing themselves any favours.
