Previous owner left the satellite dish and some cables. I want to get satellite but it seems unrealistic to have to pay £20 a month to Sky. What are the alternatives? cheers

It's not unreasonable to pay SKY if you want access to their subscription packages:)

If you want just the FTA and FTV stuff then buy a digibox and get the £20 (one off payment, guaranteed for 3 years) freesat smartcard. If you don't want that then buy a FTA digital receiver which will be fine for the BBC and a few other FTA channels on the satellites the dish is aimed at.

'Should I get sky?' - Yes IMHO - It's not free, but worth it if you're a tele addict. If you've a 'real life' perhaps not, or maybe you're kidding your self. :)
