    Hi,

Hope you can help, I want to take advantage of realtime Dolby Digital encoding for supplying a DD signal to my HC Amp (Tag AVR32) for gaming/HCPC etc..

It Appears the ony route Ive got is to swap motherboards for one with an NVidia Soundtorm chipset (I thought I could do the above with a new soundcard)

    My System is:

    AMD Althlon XP1700 (1.48ghz)
    Asus MB (A7V266-E)
    512 mb DDR RAM
Sapphire 9500 Radeon Pro (running on 4x AGP)
    80gb HDD plus 5GB HDD
    Samsung DVD ROM
Soundblaster Live value Soundcard (remember them?)

    What does anyone here reccommend?

    Im looking at:
    Abit AN7 nForce2 (Socket A) Motherboard (MB-044-AB)
    or
    Asus A7N8X Deluxe

Can I Transfer my present components to either of these boards without any problems or have I missed something?

    Thanks:smashin:

Yes, the Soundblaster should pass SPDIF so be OK for DD/DTS passthrough (DVD playback).

Only an nForce 2 MB will do DD encoding.

All those components should transfer across easily enough but I'd be inclined to dump that 5gb HDD :D

    Thanks,

A new MB it is (then possibly a new processor, more memory, a new shiny case, some leds....)

"Pass me the credit card darling I'm going to make everything right with the world"

I'm sentimentally attched to the 5gb drive, it stores my precious (but very small) things.....:D

Oh and.... does anyone know the best place to purchase the above?

Komplett do the AN7 for about 75 smackers, 80 quid odd including delivery I think. It's a good 'un, much better than the Asus which is a decent enough board but the Abit offers more and is very tweakable.
