I was considering exchanging my Sony HT-SS1100 as I am not particularly happy with it-especially becasue of the perpetual hissing from the speakers. I was considering exchanging it for the Samsung HT-TX35 to match my Sammy screen (it would also be handy to have another dvd player for everyday use instead of using my PS3).

It would depend of course on the following:

    Does the DVD player upscale?
Does it have optical connection (for PS3)?
Does it perform as well or better than the Sony system?
How good is the dialogue through the speakers?

    Any opinions would be welcome.

    Cheers

I am also considering buying this system to go with my TV and am new to surround sound systems.

Did you exchange and if so, what are your thoughts on the Sammy model?

    Thanks

Ummm.. No you shouldn't. The X35 is an inferior system, just get yourself an upscaling DVD player and link it to your 1100.

The X35 is also plagued with lip sync issues that samsung have still yet to find a fix for which is frustrating a hell of alot of owners, just take a look at the shouting on it's dedicated thread. Your also sacrificing a hell of alot of connectivity on the 1100 if you swop for an X35.

I don't know why your speakers are hissing, check that you have them all in the right places Front, back, left, right etc - Make sure that the fronts next to the TV are the magnetically shielded speakers (the surrounds are not)

Hissing also suggests a dodgy connection somewhere so check all your wires are correctly inputted and firmly inplace.

HT SS1100 does not hiss, you have a problem somewhere.

In the end I sold the Sony and used the money towards a Pioneer VSX1016 amp and some QAcoustic speakers. The problems I had with my sony system persuaded me to upgrade from the 'all in one' solution and go for separates.

Thanks for the advice though. :)
