Should David Cameron press for speedy Pardons?

So the Present of the UAE (inc Dubai) Sheikh Khalifa is in London.

We have three British men who have been arrested on drugs charges.
It is said that they were tortured (beaten etc).

The headlines read that the PM should press for "speedy" pardons.

OK, the treatment was appalling (although denied by the police) but does that entitle them to any pardon- speedy or not?

Should Cameron be fighting the corner for three men who are involved in drugs?

By all means press for better human rights, e.g.women and foreign labour, but why get his hands dirty with something like this?

If its 'cause they is British, why couldn't he find a better case? I'm sure there are plenty of other Brits in custody?

Nothing to do with the PM directly.

He has a government department that handles or keeps an eye on these things, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. The Consular side have people dotted about the UAE (including Dubai) who will update the cabinet minister concerned of any developments.

Beatings are very common in many prisons overseas, foreigners often get beaten up by the local inmates, nothing unusual in that. Extremely unlikely they were tortured by the officials.

Usual media cackling while stirring the pot.

As far as his priorities are concerned he has lost it. One the one hand he must discussing important issues like Middle East tensions with Iran, support for Syrian rebels, trade and investment in the UK and on the other pardoning those on drug charges!
