Last nights Natures Great Events was 10 mins shorter in hd than sd

The first class prog. carried on untill 22.00 on sd but hd

viewers had to put up with a Litter Later so called singing.

I hope this was just a one off.

Yeah that confused me as well. Expected it to show the how they filmed it bit and it ended so had to switch to SD.

I expect the extra 10 mins "making of" did not meet the standards necessary to broadcast on HD channel. (I haven't seen it yet, but recorded the BBCHD version on HDR, and BBC1 version on my TiVo)

Yes - it was in the schedules:
BBC HD version was 50 mins.
BBC1 version (including "diaries") was 60 mins.

I have now watched them both... and the extra 10 mins of diaries was very interesting, but looked like it was shot as a "blog" type thing using SD cameras, and not on the main HD cameras.

It was similar for Strictly Come Dancing - main show was on HD (& SD), but the results show was only on SD (not that I watched it!)
This was for the same reason - results show did not meet standards for HD channel, since much of it was filmed on (many) SD cameras for individual reactions etc. I expect they only have a few HD cameras, used for the main action.
