I concur with the above statements.

When this pj is fed a 'suitable' feed it is quite stunning, particularly when you consider the price, and delivers an image very similar to the S3 I just sold with increased brightness but without the noise :) A few issues need to be resolved by Optoma and if they do then this will be a winner. More later.

Thanks for the review Paul. :)

Question: is there any whine from the colour wheel? My Z200's fan noise is not a problem but the damned wheel can be a pain if one sits in the wrong location relative to the pj.

Let's just say when this thing is running, if it weren't for the fact that you have a picture on screen, you would swear it was switched off. No colour wheel whine or any other noise from my unit. You'd swear I had a mouse strapped to the ceiling :D In fact, a mouse would probably make more noise.

Seconded - quietest projector I've ever owned (its my 5th I think) - last was a Tosh MT8 which was much much much noisier. This is utterly silent unless, as Messiah says, you stick your ear close to it.

We both bought these yesterday & are still in testing mode, hence the brevity of my original post. Messiah has some issues with his but I've not found the same; we do however, have completely different sources, cabling etc.

Noise improvements aside, the best thing from my perspective (so far) is the contrast - colours appear deeper and the whole picture looks punchier, and bright - watching it now with daylight from the blinds behind it - could never do that successfully with the MT8.

I have to say though, its a big, ugly farker!

    Hi

Just wanted to confirm your point, that you can have the blinds open behind your sitting position with ambient light relecting onto the screen?

Thats damn good if thats the case!

How much did this unit cost you? Hope you dont mind me asking.

    Thanks

    Tone

Sounds a machine to take a closer look at. What sort of throw is it? The numbers on Ivojo's site seem to differ from numbers I saw somewhere else? Any idea the throw for a 92"?

1.6 - 2.16 times lens. So just multiply your chosen screen width by these numbers for minimum and maximum zoom.

    Just got mine too ;)

Wonderfully quiet...starts off quiet AND THEN GETS QUIETER!!!

Fabulous blacks...the screen goes black and the lights go out (almost crt-like).

High contrast means it actually seems brighter than my old MT8..I can watch a movie with a light on in my light painted room.

Not having (so far) any of the problems Messiah has had.

The best projector I've owned so far (by far)..

    Ian

p.s. it is a big mutha though

You guys cannot believe how much I am hoping most (if not all) my image quality issues are due to my existing DVD player. All should be revealed tomorrow when my 3910 arrives :D. If so then I'll be able to sleep and eat well, something I haven't done for the past 2 days :(

Messiah, Paul and myself got ours from Ben at Discount TV. Hats off to him for stellar service and for putting up with us pestering him for the last few weeks....

I don't think he has any more at the moment (I suspect we got the first 3 in the UK to be honest) but he liked what he saw yesterday when he demo'd one for me in store with a Denon A11 (fabulous partner for the H77 by the way) and will definitely be getting more in soon. Worth giving them a call.

    Regards,

    Ian Guinan

Is this the same place that used to be called Discount Electrical? Got my first pj from the just over a year ago and AFAIK the guy I spoke to was 'Ben', but I don't see anything listed under DLP projectors on their web site so I'm guessing it's not the same place.

If it IS, how come you know they're getting them?

Simple, because I asked if he would be doing the H77. Reserved mine almost a month ago now. Messiah , has your Denon 3910 arrived then? Thoughts?

    Cheers,
    Andy.

So it is the same place, that's good 'cos Ben was very helpful when I got the Panny and I always intended to deal with him again should the opportunity arise.

Last time I visited the site they didn't list any DLPs .. er, they still don't .. ah, I see, bottom of the page says they stock Optoma so that'd be why someone would perhaps ask about the H77. :)

Ah, we needn't feel bad then. Our order went in over 7 weeks ago :zonked:

Yep, 3910 arrived this morning. Gorgeous piece of kit. Tons of sockets on the rear. Been out all afternoon and spent the last hour or so switching players in the rack and linking it all up with my DVI switcher. First (quick) impressions are it looks very good but too early to say any more. I think something like this deserves a fairly long viewing period to appreciate it fully.

Very easy to use though with direct buttons for Analog/Digital output, scaling etc. Not even looked at the menus etc yet. More later :hiya:

Messiah, I assume if you set the 3910 to output 720p then the H77s internal scaler is bypassed? Any evidence of that at all? Is it possible to change the DVI custom timings at all on the 3910 , perhaps without that facility the H77 isn't locking into 1:1 pixel mapped mode and it's scaler is kicking in as well?

    Cheers,
    Andy.

Thanks .. having said I've not found any, I've just been to Joe's for a DVI cable and spotted he sells Gefen switches which look like could do a job too .. and Joe's somewhat more convenient. :)
