went down there for a visit and to try out my new lens.

but during a mass scramble and dogfight of WW2 aircraft one of the Hurricanes went down terminally, thankfully not into the crowd but onto the Hill behind the airstrip

i was also there. my friend caught the whole thing on his camcorder. he was actually filming the plane that went down. they have asked us to put the footage on disc and bring it to them.

Terrible shock for everyone.. I saw the Hurricane and Lancaster do a flyover at Bletchley Park and it was something I'll never forget. :(

My thoughts are with the pilots family and friends. It must have been so surreal watching it go down.

Shows how imporatant it is that they don't do their flying directly over the crowd.

it was very strange seeing it go down. at first we were waiting for it to come back up from behind the trees. There was a bit of a delay before the smoke came up.
iirc the commentator said he new the pilot. he was very shaken, his voice was trembling as he continued speaking.
They continued with the show after a short delay

Trying out my new lens too at the Air Show today.....I was there with my two little ones, my seven year old was most concerned, we were enjoying the display up to that point and the incident really upset us all.

My thoughts are with the pilot, his family and friends.

That's awful. It's a headline article on the BBC News website now with an updated story. It's still not official but it doesn't look good. :(

Jon: I read your headline and before I clicked the link I started to feel dread that it was Colin McRae. Ome of my dealers did his cinema for him and he is very close friends with a few folk in the hi-fi industry in Scotland, particularily Lanark where he lived. I always thought he was a very nice chap when I met him. What a terrbible day it was yesterday. My thoughts are with all the friends and family of both parties involved in the weekends crashes.

First I've heard about the McRae story, not a thing mentioned on the BBC news this morning.
Met him once, quite a few years ago now and he did indeed come across as a very nice fella.
    All very sad.

And that's without adding David Richard's helicopter crash today (Colin McRae's old Subaru WRC boss). I'm glad to say that him and his wife walked away.

Gutted, brings back memories of when I learnt Steve Hislop perished when his helicopter went down - what a nice bloke he was and what a tough career he'd had.
