Oh joy, another vehicle I can't see through on the motorway, will get stuck behind when it can't pass other vehicles in narrow streets and will occupy two parking spaces where I live. And is more likely to turn over and cause a traffic hold up.

    And will put taxes up.

Its not just about being green, you know, there is also consideration for your fellow road users.

I wouldn't mind but the supermarket carparks are marked out for real cars.

With fuel prices set to double within 10 years one should adopt a smug expression every time you see one of these trying to park.

Perhaps they should make pith helmets and khaki safari gear compulsory for the school run?

Some of the over-ornate SUVs should come with a gold medalion and a 50 Cent CD back catalogue - although if that sort of thing is one's bag why not? ;)

I have a Honda CRV, so typically sneered up at by car drivers and sneered down at by Range Rovers and the like.

In reality it is just a very reliable and flexible vehicle, easy to live with, step into it rather than fall into it or climb into it, carry anything, good driving position, never goes wrong, less CO2 than a Mini Cooper, shorter than a Mondeo, 4 wheel drive when it needs it to go anywhere I'm ever likely to go, glides over speed humps, etc. etc.

Have you noticed how much like trainers a lot of these SUVs look?

Silver, black and oddly shaped panels and details where form has nothing whatever to do with function.

Like footwear designed by a committee of cleaners in the works canteen.

Lots of dirt cheap electronics look like trainers too. :D

    I rest my case. :rotfl:

Nothing wrong with Honda CRVs, Renault Scenics, or Landrovers - all good functional vehicles. The Range Rover Sport is just a very big version of a Chav "special" Nova. :D You won't see too many RR Sports covered in mud with a sheep dog and a couple sheep sticking their heads out the back.

I'm amazed that car repaint services aren't offering their talents for that "just been through my first puddle" but otherwise perfect ex-showroom look.

A few watery beads are so desirable for that authentic "I really do have a second property in the country" look. ;)

One might imagine quite a range of country flavours:

The slightly chalky posh gravel drive to the stately home cattle grid splash effect.

Still wet from the village ford effect.

Mud spots from rescuing a fair damsel, in a Ferrari, from heavy dew under a leaden sky effect. :boring:

The foot and mouth chemical splash at the country show effect.

All airbrushing will be guaranteed fully carwash proof of course. :smashin:

Water slide transfers are just so naff in this market. :nono:

Yeah. Right subtle, is that, lad! :rotfl:

Where's the suggestion of class? The gently understated mark of a gentleman's progress through life? Where's the authenticity? It looks just like any other Landrover on the Balmoral estate.
