Ok, last question before I get on with it (pics to follow, I promise).

I'm re mains cabling all my kit because
    a) some cables are far too long and look messy
    b) LCD cable is too short
    c) may improve sound / pic quality

I thinking of some DIY kimber stlye cables for the amp, CD and Sky+ but what's best for the LCD screen? I'll need about 3 meters of cable and it will run together with the system cable (sharp LCD + av box). Would this be better made from screened cable or home made weave?

Don't want to spend too much on this project for no gains.

    Thanks

I don't think it's worth worrying about too much, shielded would be much less intensive to make. :)

Is this for aesthetic reasons or technical ones?

Nic, see the list of A, B and C in the original post for his motivation. :)

I saw that :) but still wasn't too sure. I think it is to generally tidy things up, if so I think the braided cables look good (with ot without covering sleeve) but it is difficult to predict final lengths until you get you platting right (13 year old girls are good here). Shielded cables don't have these issues but if he also has hum issues.......then this is route he needs to take.

    Thanks for the replies.

The a,b,c are in priority order. I thought as I've got to shorten / lenthen cables then I don't mind doing some extra work if there's a chance it will improve sounds / PQ, maybe clear up the slight mains hum (no input, med volume) and clean up the picture from Sky+. Hopefully if the cables are the right length you wont see them so I don't really mind what they look like.

Also bought a Belkin pure av block from play.com so that may help. Only £22.

Maplin make some shielded cables nowdays in two power ratings, about 1.5m long, seem decent enough quality.
