Shenmue and Shenmue 2 coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC

Shenmue I & II are coming to PS4, Xbox One...

The first two Shenmue games are coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One later this year, Sega announced today. The re-release, Shenmue 1 & 2, will be released sometime in 2018.

Sega calls the Shenmue 1 & 2 re-release the “definitive version” of the classic adventure games with modernized features such as “fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers.”

The two titles will be released digitally and physically. Here’s a look at the re-releases’ box art:

The original Shenmue was released for Sega Dreamcast in 1999 and introduced players to Ryo Hazuki, a young martial artist on a journey of discovery and revenge. Sega followed up the ambitious adventure game with a sequel in 2001 for the original Xbox and Sega Dreamcast.

I was hoping for an up to date look. As such I won't be bothering with these.

Most of these remasters don’t get updated graphics anyway. I’m just hoping for a much smoother frame rate & faster loading times, as they are both quite bad on the original releases.

I've great memories of the originals. I think as they've not spruced them up I'm going to leave them best as memories.

Would have been all over these if they'd been proper remasters, but unless they're priced as a budget title I can't see them selling many.

The Yakuza series is similar in many ways anyway, and offers so much more now imo. Yakuza kiwami is a great example of how to do a proper rerelease.

    Definitely up for this.

Is the Yakuza game similar then?

There are definite similarities I’d say.

Shenmue has a more emotional and laid back story, but yakuza has the edge on everything else imo - combat, story, exploration and so on ; it’s almost become Shenmue+!

I suspect anyway that if you like one then you’ll also get enjoyment from the other.

Cant wait to get my hands on this.

I've still got my DC Originals here but I really cant wait to see how the remaster looks.. Epic games and lets not forget the opportunity to play great arcade classics like Out Run, Space Harrier, Afterburner & Hang-On via the arcade machines.

Looks like I'll be collecting Capsule toys and feeding the cat again for weeks to come lol.

Judging by the video they look exactly the same. So just fire your Dreamcast up and save yourself some cash :)

The lasers are prone to fail on many Dreamcast's these days as well. Cherish those moments whilst you can.

just a heads up, gameplay is very slow-paced. if you give it time and get into the world, your definitely enjoying it. ..just dont expect gta, its closer to witcher 3 imo.

+ any new fan does not have to wait long for shenmue 3.

It does look like it's just been up scaled to 1080p, will definitely run at a better frame rate too and have better loading times I imagine, shame they havnt at the very least upgraded the textures, I'll still buy it as it's been a few years since i played the originals and it will get me in the mood for shenmue 3

If I remember right the frame rate on Shenmue II was iffy at best.

shenmue HD will have new and classic controls

as well as that we will have the option to either have english or japanese voices in both games.

personally i thought the japanese voices with english text was very immersive. im looking forward to playing shenmue 1 in japanese.

seems like late 2018. price will be around $29 ( physical release might cost more?) imo i wouldnt be suprised if sega has been sitting on shenmue HD waiting to relase around #3.

Yep it's definitely one of mine. It had a solid library of games. I'd love Sega to release a Dreamcast classic with X amount of built in games like the mega drive one that's coming out. Same applies to the Saturn.
