Shelly Dimmer 2

Not really a Shelly question but looking to order scolmore grid pro just for single light switches round the house, for those people that have them any info good or bad ?
Thanks
I found them to be good, I bought enough to do the whole house and a few spares.

Thanks I just wondered as I was looking at varilight and the scolmore are roughly 3 times the price

Hi can I fit a dimmer onto this I think the 3core and earth supplies a downstairs light but the standard red/black is for the hall light I want to control. Sorry not at home to investigate that other wiring but the downstairs switch is a 1 gang with 2 switches one for downstairs and one for upstairs ?
Thanks

btw wires tidied up after I saw this and the no earth on metal switch is reason for posting as I was putting the Shelly in a back room but after seeing this I thought Add Shelly terminal block the rest and order new switches

okay back for some help i connect my dimmer 2 to a plug with live and neutral i then find the shelly AP with the shelly SSID i find the device and it says inclusion then verifying devices then inclusion successful then update to use the app which comes up as success then the device disappears and then goes back to discovered devise with nothing to show, and all the time nothing on the web address. i have set up innr, tp link, hue and homebridge so not really stupid.it had been reset twice with the same results i have left it for 10 mins with the red led slowly blinking every 3 seconds before i decided to ask for help

Ok reset and don’t even get a device showing now

Discovered devices image should appear at top of rooms, select this

List of devices should appear, click to add

IMG_5766.PNG

continues ....

Update firmware as required

IMG_5767.PNG

wait for confirmation of update

IMG_5768.PNG

Module added, amend as required

Patience, patience and then a bit of patience is required, if you stop the above process half way through you can confuse the adding of modules

reset and up to After inclusion finished. wait patiently again i suggest 5 minutes, will update, should say i only get under 2 minutes when connecting to it with a pc then connection is lost

well that was a long drawn out task, worked first time bar @ "List of devices should appear, click to add " i had update not add so clicked that and it disappeared again but rebooted the app after and it reappeared again asking to add and all is good, only another 3 to go now, don't know why all this wasn't mentioned as a foot note to installation, and if the next ones go as easily i will be ordering more
Many thanks for all your help and patience

just to update just added another 3 following the above and they all setup okay

Great, there a few "restarts", "reload/refresh app" and "waits" that seem to be missing from the official instructions.

I only learnt by trial and error but now its a quick and simple job if you do it right and dont skip or rush

I find a lot of people give up and then "slag off" the modules which is a pity

Thanks hopefully last question I just set up 2 rooms with 4 x 5w led lamps in each room the Shelly has no neutrals and no switches connected but after calibration I get a maximum of only 10% in each room. Any ideas ?
Thanks

thats a load of around 20W, but the advertised load on LED bulbs is very hit and miss. I would suggest you need the Bypass as you are right on the edge of too low a load

Thank you that lets me know, I was ordering them anyway when they are back in stock next week
Thanks

My advice would be to add the Bypass to any "no neutral" install unless you have 50W+ of load
Will do I am in the process of dropping a neutral to the switches but plan on adding the bypass in the short term. Btw lamps working now, after I killed the power to add another dimmer to another room

Sorry don’t know where else to post I have a switch upstairs that switches 1 light on at the switch but has a 3 core and earth that goes downstairs to a double light switch which switches the downstairs lights on and the other switch will switch the upstairs lights on. So 2 wires at L1 and 2 wires at L2 and 1 wire to com. All I want to do is put a dimmer 2 for the 1 light upstairs with a scolmore 3 way retractive switch. Is this possible before i order the switches, first photo upstairs switch, second downstairs switch.
Thanks

I think I asked a similar question on the first page and the response was that you'd need 2-pos retractive at both switches. To have 3-pos I believe you'd need an extra wire between the 2 switches.

Actually, if you're keeping the downstairs as a standard switch, you might be okay, best wait for Seb to confirm! I still need to do the same myself.

Thanks no chance of getting an extra wire downstairs so will wait and see
Thanks

Sorry not tested that particular combination, though no reason why it wouldnt work

Below are the 2 diagrams for 2 way switching (toggle and retractive) which will hopefully help

Just to share what I am doing with some Shellys. Pictured is 8 Shelly dimmers (now 10) and 8 Shelly 2.5s

The dimmers are to control lights in a new extension which will have a kitchen / lounge and the 2.5s are to control roller blinds in the same locations.

Took a while to get all the requirements figured out and a bit of head scratching by me. Still have to get it signed off by the sparky who is doing the electrical work on the extension but via pictures he seems happy!

Have tested temps and they sat a bit warm for my liking which is why I bought a couple of 80mm fans. Temps are not much above ambient now and the fans are near silent

Thanks to @Seb Briggs for your diagrams and suggestions of 3 pos retractive switches in other posts, I now plan to have a grid of 12 switches in a couple of locations to control it all.

The only question I have and have is would the below work? We've taken L+N to all new switches in the build but a couple cables between switches are only 2 core and not 3. Could the live be bridged at the switches and use the 2 core between the switches as L1 + L2 and not have a COM?
