Can anyone who has Shawshank Redemption tell me what is the surround on it. I picked it up to day, and the one I looked at said Dolby Surround. On looking at the diagram on the box it shows 2 front, and one for the back (pro-logic). Yet Dolby Digital disk have 2 front and 3 back. On looking on the Play site for specification says Pro-Logic. Yet I have see one a reg4 site, theirs is 5.1.
Is this another to add to The Long Kiss Goodnight and Deep Rising, that only have Pro-logic in this country.:(

Shawshank was originally Pro Logic when it first came out a few years ago.

A two disc special edition is being prepared with 5.1 DD and rumoured DTS soundtracks. I think this may be why you can pick the movie up for about £5.99 anywhere.

That would be sweet as it's definitely in my top 5 of all time. Where did you hear this rumour?

    Garrett,

As far as I can remember, it comes up as "Dolby Digital 2.0 Dolby Surround" on my Sony player which I've always presumed is the digital version of Dolby Pro Logic. Dolby Digital doesn't just mean 5.1 and I've never had a DVD come up as Dolby Pro Logic before.

You're better off with the R4 anyway. The picture quality is better because it's dual layer. The R2 is a bit grainy and has a few digital artifacts as it's single layer.

    Thank for the help everyone

Squirrel, I have just looked at your list of DVD's, have you not thought of getting North By Northwest and L.A. Confidential whilst they are on cheap. Both can have the score played on its own as well as being great films.

Thanks Garrett, but I can't watch Hitchcock too often, which is why I don't own any (sic), and LA Confidential has always put me off because Kim Basinger is in it and I really can't stand her... I might try it for Spacey, DeVito and Pearce though ;)

I own the Crappy £5.99 version, it's a great movie so this Special Edition pack sounds brill, So I may be taking my £5.99 version and trading it for discount on the special edition,

The sound and picture quality on the R1 5.1 version are outstanding - reference quality.

I'm gonna stick with my cheap R2 seeing as I've had it a while now anyway. It's not a movie that I watch too often and the picture and sound quality are more than acceptable. :)

Not sure really. But I have to be in the mood for Hitchcock and that doesn't happen too often. I do really like Rear Window though and the one where they're all at a party and there's a body in the trunk (is it The Rope?). :)

    Yes its called Rope

Funny thing is I never really liked Hitchcock either, although suspicion is good, mainly due to Cary Grant.

Watched my Shawshank Redemption R2 tonight and it's actually just Dolby Digital 2.0  It says it's Dolby Surround on the case though - obviously a typo. I could've sworn it said 2.0 surround last time I watched it - bugger

It was originally in 2.0 anyway (going from the end of movie credits).
