Sharp VC-MH705HM v Philips VR-730

    Since most attention is focused on new technology, the old vcr appears neglected, and there's a dearth of reviews for new machines. So, I was wondering if anyone has any views on the Sharp VC-MH705HM and/or Philips VR-730, to help me decide which to buy.

    I totally agree on the lack of reviews for VCRs.

    I can't comment on the Sharp VCMH705HM but the Sharp VCMH835HM has a 5/5 review from What Video&TV. This is the top of the range Sharp VCR and has a few more features than the 705 model. So for the extra few quid I'd suggest going for that model. The review can be found at : -

    Search around on the net and you should be able to get it for around £100.

    As regards the Philips 730, the Philips VR 840 is their top of the range model and this looks good but I can't find any reviews on it anywhere. Richer Sounds are doing this model for £99.99
