The Sharp LC-46LE821E offers excellent build quality, reference greyscale and very good video processing but suffers from slightly distorted colours due to a marketing gimmick

Hey. In your review you stated DVD uses the rec 709 colour space. It was my impression that Pal DVDs used the pal/scam colour space, which differs slightly from rec 709. Have I been misinformed? I've always calibrated my pal DVD players to the below standard. Also there is an option to select this in HCFR.

PAL/SECAM:
Red primary: x=0.640 / y=0.330
Green primary: x=0.290 / y=0.600
Blue primary: x=0.150 / y=0.060
Yellow secondary: x=0.417 / y=0.502
Cyan secondary: x=0.220 / y=0.329
Magenta secondary: x=0.327 / y=0.157

HDTV - REC 709:
Red primary: x=0.640 / y=0.330
Green primary: x=0.300 / y=0.600
Blue primary: x=0.150 / y=0.060
Yellow secondary: x=0.419 / y=0.505
Cyan secondary: x=0.225 / y=0.329
Magenta secondary: x=0.321 / y=0.154

There is so little difference between Pal and HD colour spaces that it makes little difference and most calibrators use Rec.709. NTSC is a different kettle of fish if you use Region 1 DVDs.

Thank you for this nice review.
Could you post your full calibration settings by any chance?
Got to test on my LE820 and can t find any decent calibration without buying software and stuff. :)

Hi. What meter do you use for your reviews (and specifically with this Sharp TV?).

Hi Kabrich

I used the Sencore OTC-1000 with CalMan v3.7 for that review.
