I have just had an email from Sharp.co.uk stating the following:

stylish piano-black 52 inch LC52XD1E from Sharp's award winning FULL HIGH DEFINITION XD range is temporarily available at £1299, direct from sharp.co.uk. Simply order on or before 17 October 2007 and enter the following promotional code during checkout: sharp52

The promotional code "sharp52" knocks £1000 off the price.

    A 52" 1080p for £1299..........Has the world gone mad. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I got sent this offer too, prolly 'cause I already have a Sharp 32" LCD bought last year.

The question is...Are these any good for SD? I currently have a VM box and Standard DVD recorder. I will be getting HD at some stage, but not just yet. Viewing distance would be approx 11-12 feet.

Not good for SD, but then again, don't buy an 1080P scrteen if you're pumping SD through it I reckon

My daughter has the 42" model and SD is fine on most channels.

Their was a problem with banding on these 52"S, but the models now being sold should not have that problem.

    This is an unbelieveable bargain.

Even playing SD on an Oppo 981 is fine , in fact its very good.

Bluray on a PS3 is also superb.

This set would be worth buying at that price, until most faults on other models are ironed out and the Pio 508 drops in price.

    what a bargain

Not sure, but I always thought Sharp a better brand than Samsung.

Some shops still have the Sharp 52" priced at £2000. Some shop owners have obviously never heard of the internet:D

    An extra £200 for a 52" Samsung....................where ???

The Sharp XD1 is one of the best TV's on earth.

They have had some problems with banding, but it is not as bad as it was. £1299 is just a ridiculous price for this TV. If I had a big enough lounge then I would have bought one.

has anyone ordered yet if its such a bargain?
The thing that is putting me off is after allways owning a plasma I'm scared the black levels and sd performance will not be as good.

I know the best thing to do would be to audition the set, but how many places will have one of these hooked up to a good sourse. How I long for the days when I was happy with my sony 28 wide crt most sets then then had simular picture quality

The black levels on the XD1 range is superb, one of the best LCD's in this department. Maybe not as good as the best Plasma in a pitch black room, but still very good.

SD on my 42" is also very, very good. Obviously when you blow us a crappy SD feed to 52" then it will suffer a bit, but it should be more than acceptable.

1080p stuff on a 52" will be mind blowing.

Lastly, don't forget that as you would be buying this online you can just return it if you are not happy. For this price, it is worth trying it out for a few days.

Sharp are also offering buy now pay sept 2008. BARGAIN

Cant wait. Will post once i get it.

Is meant to be Five days, but if you take the dont pay for 12 months you need to wait for the credit test which can take a couple of days. As long as i get mine end of next week i will be a happy camper :).

P.s have i said i cant wait :rotfl:

Want one of these for this price! How do you take advantage of the 12 months interest free option from Sharp's website? There seems to be no option for it?

    Cheers.

Received mine this morning. The screen was cracked all the way down the right side:( The delivery guy probably did it after the way he man-handled the box out of the van.

    Dear customer,

Thank you for your recent application to pay for your Sharp order using our Able2Buy finance option.

We are sorry to report that we were today informed that Creditenabler, who offer the Able2Buy service, have gone into administration and will therefore not be able to process your application.

However, as this unlikely to be available in the near future, you can currently only pay for your order by credit or debit card. In order to do so, please submit your order afresh.

We apologise for this inconvenience and as a gesture have decided to give you a further £20 discount if you apply the following discount code during checkout: sharp52voucher

Way back in June or July I had settled on this panel as the one I would get - until I went into the dedicated thread on here and was mortified by all the complaints about banding and buzzing. Now it comes full circle and the panel is being offered for probably as low as it'll ever get before being discontinued and taken off the shelves. But what I don't get here is the excitement about this set now? I know it's incredibly cheap and I found it to be a beautiful looking panel when I went into Empire Direct to have a look at it, but won't the faults that burdened this still be inherent, even if it's being sent direct from Sharp?

Also, what guarantee comes with this? I don't think I'll go in for it as I'm now set to get myself a Kuro, but will definitely tell a few people who are in the market for a panel with a budget intended for a 42"cher, so if anyone could help me out with my queries here, I'd be grateful.
