hi
Sharp LC42XD1E - 42" Widescreen Full HD 1080P LCD TV (the older model not EA newer version), over a year old, maybe nearly 2
standard usage, 4-5 hours a day

http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/381/12481006.jpg
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/6437/91907655.jpg

images on on their side for some reason sorry, rotate them 90deg clockwise
but you should see the effect, the scene in the movie was fog and was an even colour, no black lines

that is the weird effect on screen - more visible on some scenes than others
get it whether tv is on ps3/360/freeview box or normal tv, and through hdmi/scart/aerial etc

only appeared recently

ive an 8 month old so ive had to move the ps3 and 360 and stand them behind the tv, and the surround central speaker is at the back too
i'm 99% sure this had started BEFORE i moved the equipment though

any ideas what is causing the effect
only happens when a plain colour displayed, but the effect spreads in dark bands from right to left, some nearly 75% of the screen

if theres a detailed scene then the effect is hidden but is there still

should also mention it suffers from screen burn too - when a particularly bright or static image is onscreen a while - a purple/green outline of it can be seen for an hour or more afterwards too :(
didnt think screen burn and lcd tv's was a problem ?

time for a new TVright ????

any help / ideas etc appreciated

:lease:

the screen artifact looks like and issue called coluding. it is caused by poor screen uniformity, un even backligh or faults in the LCD panel it happens on some LCD`s.
i had it on my first sharp tv (LC37X20E) but the box had a broken handle and had been opened and resealed. i put the issue down to the
tv being dropped during handling in the wherehouse or delivery and demanded a replacement of the retailer.

it can happen as the panels get used as the backlight wears or the backlight diffusser gets waped causing the panel to illuminate unevenly. sometimes it can be fixed other times (when the panel is the issue) it cant be repaired.

as for the image retention (its nob burn in as LCD`s dont actually suffer burn in) its usually caused by the image enhancers that are enabled in the menu`s.
have a look at the following settings

film mode
active contrast
DNR

all the above seeting need switching off as although these settings help to create a crisp, clean image (espeically in SD) these can also cause image retention. the one most responsible for it is the DNR as that causes the image retention to be really bad.

have a try at switching of f the above settings and then see how the retantion is.

update

clouding getting worse now, spreading the whole width of the screen, now noticeable during normal scenes :thumbsdow

as for retention, all those setting were always off, if i forget and pause a dvd/recorded tv etc the image retains for upto 30secs, even after only say 1min of pause, worse with brighter images

no fixes for EITHER problem??????

My LCD ( same model ) has developed the same problem..
I originally purchased the LCD 2 years ago from Richer Sounds..Purchased along with a 5 year warranty plan.

I rang a guy in Richer Sounds Middlesbrough office, he gave me a number for the warranty people ( with in Richer Sounds ). We booked and engineer to come round and have a look at the set, he's just been round this morning and confirmed it needs a new Screen, obviously parts labour screen covered on the warranty..
He's coming back Saturday to pick the set up and replace the part..
Should take a week to get it back to me.

I have to say Richer Sounds Service is impeccable
From the day we purchased the LCD ( got price matched and then knocked 200 quid off the marked up price there and then..)
And today with the prompt engineer service..

Now all I need is to get rid of this Flue bug ive picked up and the start to 2010 will be a great one..
