Can anybody tell me much about this. Remember seeing a trailer for it at the flics ages ago and it looked pretty funny.
CD-WOW now have the directors cut on offer, but I cant find a review for it.

Another slight problem is that they are offering NTSC R3 and my TV has a problem with that. Is it available PAL (R2/R4) ?

I have an SVCD version with subtitles in four languages. :D

Very funny if you are drunk/stoned or both and decent the first time round even if you are neither. No idea about the plot because I always flick to the stupid football bits. It might actually be a half-decent film (but I really, really doubt it).

    Director's Cut?! You're Joking!!!

    ***SPOILER ALERT***

This is a incredibly stupid film about a dude that tries to promote the use Kung Fu in everyday life (for jumping onto the top deck of moving buses, throwing dough around etc...). He resurrects this motley bunch of exorcised Shaolin Temple throwbacks and forms a football team. They play footie using their amazing flying monkey skills and kick much ass, shouting incorrectly translated words at each other such as "FIT!". At the end they nearly get beaten by a collection of hideous, steroid-fuelled, evil meatheads (dressed in black to help the US audience) but a bald girl from Mars with absolutely disgusting shoes saves them.

...and the Chinese crowd all cheer, "Beckham! Beckham! Beckham!".

    *****************

At least that is what I think it's about. :)

great film and great DVD with DTS. I got my HKR3 from dddhouse for a few quid. yes it`s NYSC but u will have problems with the R2/4 as the film was americanised for the western audiences, ie music changed and film got few things cut as well. (at least from what I heard)

Fantastic film - obviously a little far fetched - but then what Chinese film isn`t ? really liked this one, good story/really funny/well shot/and the audio  DTS is gobsmacking if you have a subwoofer that is up to the job  when some of the shots of the ball swirling round are on, the waves of low end actually shake the house violently

So lets get this right the only PAL versions are R2/R4 and they have both been dubbed & cut and have no DTS.

Thanks for the help, though it looks like I'm stuffed as, like I said, my TV has a problem with NTSC.

At the moment, there are no R2 or R4 discs of Shaolin Soccer - when they are available (along with an R1), they'll be different to the original version. Disney bought the Western rights and have cut/dubbed the film acording to how they think it'll be best recieved by a Western audience. The original version will not be officially available in the West. Oh, and it'll cost more than the proper original version aswell:rolleyes:

How about using your player to convert the signal to PAL?

well that is not entirerely true. The french dvd studio HK video has said they will release a double disc set with original and western version. That is not done yet and if they do it it will only have french subs, wich a lot of you will have problems with, sorry.

Not quite with you there. My player will output either PAL or NTSC. Or you put it on AUTO and it detects which format all by itself.

My player allows me to select the TV System, so I can output NTSC films as pseudo-PAL, although I don't bother as my TV handles NTSC OK. Have you tried playing an NTSC disc as PAL, to see if it'll convert it?

Lux, I guess I stand corrected. Not much use if you don't speak French though:p

actually It's good enough if u can read french:D

I also have problems with my TV and NTSC discs.
My tosh 220 has a choice of Auto and PAL. so I use auto. but my TV (via scart) can't handle that properly and squashes the picture slightly (full screen comes out at something like 1.66:1)I think that's due to NTSC having only 525 lines and my TV (too old I guess) too stupid to display.
Nevermind, I'm sure it will break down *accidentally* over the next few months:D

Disney suck when it comes to releasing chinese/hong kong films. I believe they are releasing The Accidental Spy" with JAckie Chan, and this one of the worst westernised films ever!!

They managed to insert a plot, which is not even mentioned in the original film!! And got rid of the original plot, via removing/cutting scenes.!!!
