Shadowy area on screen? HDMI problem?

Hi guys... I was wondering if its possible that a HDMI cable could cause a problem with the picture on a HDTV?

I am getting a long thin shadowy patch on my Bravia 40" using SkyHD and my PS3... its only noticeable when the background colour is a certain shade, but its offputting. I was wondering if the HDMI cable could be causing this? I don't want to go out and buy a new cable if its unlikely to cause an issue....
the cable is the one I got with my Sky HD box.

Have you tried connecting using component to see if the problem persists? Has the problem always been there or was it OK and has just started? Also, if you can post a picture of the problem someone may say I've had that myself....
