Shadow of the Colossus Remake

Got this at the weekend- want to love it but the controls and camera are bloody awful. As above, I'll finish it but then sell it.
Agree, It may look like a ps4 game but it still plays like a ps2 game. I just got more and more frustrated as I went through and that just took away any fun or enjoyment I may have gotten.

I've never played it before and I'd say after this playthrough it was one of the most frustrating, scruffy and over rated games i've ever played.

It may well have deserved it's masterpiece status in 2005 but in 2018 it falls way short compared to many titles we've had since.

I really enjoyed this, but that's on PS+. I didn't like the controls to start with, but I got used to them and almost enjoyed how it was working, that was up until the last Colossus, making that path up to the top was really frustrating trying to cope with platforming mechanics not really used else where. But after the 15th attempt, I paused for a cup of tea and did it on the second try.

This game looks wonderful, some of the views off the bridges are amazing, but this isn't a game I would get full value out of if it hadn't come to plus. 16 boss fights, most can be over within minutes once you know the secrets and playing through on a harder difficulty would basically be battling the controls more than the game.

I still spent 7 hours on this unique story and really glad I played it, but I had a quick scan through the trophies and spotted things like eating apples, I didn't see a single apple and I did a bit of exploring, anyone know what that sort of thing was about? I found a few sparkly spots and pressed R2 to pick them up, but nothing happened and checking my stats it stated I'd found no key items. I doubt I'd play through again, but I'm curious to what I've missed here, or if I did something wrong with the sparkly bits?

You have to shoot an apple out of a tree with your bow and then you can eat it. It doesn't really look like an apple though!

Just started this a few days ago and am quite enjoying it, not normally one for games like this.

I'm only going 1 fight at a time so as not to sicken and frustrate myself. Think I've defeated 4 up till now

I finally started this last night and managed 4 colossi, it's been on my radar for years and is+ finally got me to start it. I've got mixed feelings, I don't find the controls too bad, but the camera on the third Colossus was horrific. I get it you want/need to see the Colossus but if you have to move away to lure any of them there's no zoom for you to see your location and the visits at the same time, so I kept either running too far or not far enough.

I'll stick with it as I've heard very good things about it and how it plays out.

I just couldn't get pass the first Colossus because I really didn't like the controls, to be honest. I think this is something that needed to played back in PS2 era.

First time player here, picked it when it was about £6 recently I think. The graphics and epic scale are something to behold but like others have said, the controls are really not great and it became very frustrating spoiling the game experience IMO.

Not sure it spoiled it for me, but I'd have moire than likely cracked on and got the platinum if they were a bit less frustrating.

Completely spoiled the game for me, I couldn't get pass the first Colossus despite liking the concept of the game all because of the terrible controls. And i'm somebody who can adapt really well to odd control schemes

Not that well, obviously :)

I class myself as a novice in the field of control scheme management, but I did alright...

Good game, lovely environments... controls could be better.

Yeah, its definitely worth persisting with the controls for one play through, beautiful with a haunting storyline. If the controls weren't so janky, it would be a tremendously easy game :D

I do adapt incredibly well, obviously. I haven't got the time or patience anymore to adapt to a terrible control scheme. It's simple. You can do that, fine. But I can't and won't.

Ico was much better/user friendly.

Your posts make little sense, and then less sense (somehow) when you try to justify them.

A real classic of a game, with somewhat janky controls - you gave up before you beat the first colossus, because you couldn't adapt to the controls, but in the same breath say you're very good at adapting to odd control schemes - I should do little more than shake my head at that statement.

The whole point of being able to adapt to something well is to persevere with said oddness until it is comfortable and natural - You didn't give the game much time before delivering your verdict that the terrible control scheme ruined it for you, but whatever floats your boat - Solely in my opinion, you've missed out.

I'm glad I persevered with it personally, it was very enjoyable overall, despite the control scheme having some frustrating elements.

You shouldn't be shaking your head at anything, i'm demonstrating that the controls are so jacked that even I, a gamer for nearly 30 years, couldn't cope with it. It's a failing of their control scheme not, I, theprestige. Look, i'm the type of bloke who could still go back and happily play the classic Resident Evil games with their tank controls. Put that into perspective.

And I gave it plenty of time btw. I died like 20 times all because of the shitty controls.

the camera is awful with these remasters they make them look nice and run nice but dont do probably the most important thing update the controls. the controls are archaic and desperately needed updating it also probably ahs the worst camera ever in a video game

mind you last guardian which later they made was equally as bad in the controls department so it looks like the learned nothing in the decades after

That's right, that's what i've been saying.

The controls are a bit smoother than the original but still not great. Team Ico seem to specialise in clunky controls.

I'm by no means a good gamer, but managed to complete it no bother, some bosses took a few tries and the horse sometimes had a mind of its own, but you'd think the control system was designed for the Kempston Joystick the way some people have got on :D
