Hi everyone, just got R2 Sex & the City Season 4 (from PLAY.COM) and I noticed it is in PROGRESSIVE PAL not INTERLACED.

Most of the time, it seems that R2 DVD are PAL interlaced (at least in France :) ) ... so would you know if that PROGRESSIVE PAL format is specific to that DVD or to UK DVD in general?

On a german site I saw it was displayed in a interlaced format. If anyone has a feedback on this one, please let us know!

    Cheers

This probably means that the progressive flag fields have been encoded correctly for 2:2 pulldown on the DVD, and also it may have been encoded as FILM rather than Video, which most PAL DVDs are.

    Just guessing though... :)

Progressive playback will depend on whether your DVD player has this output and you also need a display capable of accepting a Progressive signal (NTSC or PAL) to view it.

It's not down to the discs themselves as any dvd can be viewed in progressive form (NTSC or PAL). You need hardware capable of the job though.
