I can see the socket you pulled it out of or was it the one you used super glue on.

    I never touched his leg!

    It's a Canon 300D Garrett :) Don't worry though - I'm not getting rid of my Olympus ;)

What sort of lens comes with it?
From what I can see there is no zoom.
Does it accept the old Canon lenses?

Well I bought the camera with the lens kit. it's an 18-55mm lens which does zoom. It 'starts' wider than the C-765 and zooms to approx 3 times - does that make sense?

Canon EF and the new EF-S (made specifically for the 300D and the 20D) are supported, as are Sigma (some older ones can be 'chipped by Sigma to work with the digital SLR) lenses and Tamron and probably a few others (Cosina,Tokina) .

I am just starting out in SLR photography and I feel I have really 'taken' to it. Speed was the main reason I got the 300D - the shutter and focusing ( and the kit lens isn't even that quick compared to some!) is like greased lightening and makes point and shoots seem reaallly slow.
Having two kids, I was always missing shots where the camera was focusing and lagging so I felt speed was an important issue for me.
I will miss the super macro on the olympus as the Macro lens for the Canon I would like is in the region of £3/400.

I have to start allover again now though, I need a new case, new spare batteries and CF cards instead of the xD cards. It looks like I will be staying with Canon the rest of my life now! I am NOT going to change brands again!

    It does.
My old Canon came with a 50mm lens which was classed as what was normal eyesight. A 35mm was a wide angle.
I had a 70 to 210 zoom lens which had a macro but not as good as the Olympus so the Oly goes down to an old wide angle and on the zoom goes up to 350mm.
I must say though the one thing I do not like is the split second lag from pressing the button to the capture of the picture.

    Hi Nic,

Can I ask where you got your 300D & for what price please ? Very tempted, but finding it hard to justify new price at the mo, after spending money elsewhere on AV recently ;)

    Cheers Dave

    Dave,
I actually got it from Pixmania. You can see it if you click here I also paid £19 for express delivery, I've bought all my cameras from Pixmania and never had an ounce of trouble, however a few people report bad experiences with them. Also, my manual was in German - but I knew that and downloaded the English version. The warranty is European and covers the UK.

    HTH!

    Nicola

Noticed they had come down again, but currently out of stock. Trying a WTD Ad for a s/h one, to try & save a few pennies, although they do seem to be relatively sought after. I thought the Nikon D70 may have had a bigger impact on S/H prices for the Canon by now.
