    Hi all

If i want to testand calibrate the sound levels on a Denon AVC A11SR using a test DVD, what settings should I set the
11SR to? From the remote if i selelct 5ch\7ch the sounds are mixed eg if i'm testing the centre channel, sounds
come from the front speakers too. With pure direct and direct the sound is just stereo.
One way in which sounds comes from specific channels is if i select THX button on the remote.

Please can you advise me on this as I'd like to make sure I have my syatem setup properly.

    cheers,

    Shaz

    Hi

First use the internal test tones to balance all the channels.

On test discs such as AVIA you´ll be using Dolby Digital to balance them all. This will affect DTS, Pro-Logic, DTS-Neo etc etc

You can then use THX and balance them using this as well. The Denon stores THX settings independently of Dolby/DTS etc.

Whilst they should be the same overall in practice, THX can have slightly different results.

the denon was automatically perfectly balanced, as i definted
how far away each speaker was.

im using ultimate dvd platinum, and setting the volume knob to
00db, so playing the dvd at 00 give me a value FAR greater than
75db infact it goes right of the scale.
And it's way too loud. what volume level should i have the denon
    at?

The Denon does NOT automatically balance the channel levels.

What you´re referring to is the delay times in regard to your seating distance from each speaker.

To balance with an external disc just start the test tone and then turn down the main volume level until the sound meter reads 75db (this may equate to around -15db on your volume display). Then balance all the other channels in relation to each other.

I'm not sure about your experiences but when I had an avc-a11,The in-built test tones were exactly the same (using spl) as ones from a dvd player/test disk.

I too found them to be the same as the DVD which is good. My old amp sucked and was different.

I do not have the new THX Optimiser disc yet.
