As the 42PMA400E does not have multiple memory settings I've setup the plasma primarily for NTSC as I have and watch more R1 DVD's.

For PAL DVD's and Freeview I use the picture settings on my Pioneer DV-686 and the Pioneer DVR-220 to achieve the required changes to the picture.

    NTSC
    -----

Pioneer DV-668 set to standard PDP setting with the following settings on the plasma:

    Operate Mode: Life Exten 2
    Contract: 66
    Brightness: +4
    Colour: 0
    Tint:0
    Sharpness: 0
    Video Picture: Normal
    Contrast Mode: Auto
    Black Stretch: Off
    LTI: Low
    CTI: Low
    YNR: Low
    3d Comb: On
    Film Mode: On
    Gamma: 2.2
    Line Intp: Off
    Colour Temp: USER
    R-Gain 255
    G-Gain 255
    B-Gain 255

    PAL
    ---

Same settings as above but I change the Pioneer DVD player settings to compensate for the differences beween a PAL and NTSC signal.

I used the test patterns on the Digital Video Essentials DVD to derive the settings on the plasma and DVD player.

The callibration has improved skin tones and provided more detail in darker areas. Prior to callibrating the display I had no detail in darker areas i.e. it would be solid black. The changes are quite subtle but do make a difference.
