now i know it comes down to personal preference as to how to set up a sub, but i imagine that there are some golden rules to follow before this.

The sub i am using has seperate Phase/Frequency/Gain controls. Being new to this, i have no doubt that this is probably the norm, but i wondered if there is any detailed info on each (maybe on the net), and how it affects the sound. Is there also somekind of DVD specially made for setting up the sound?

    cheers

It would have helped if you let us know what kind of amp and speakers you are using.

There is an excellent factsheet somewhere on the forum or on the What Video web site but I can't for the life of me remember exactly where but someone will come along with the url.

There are specialist DVDs available to help in setting up a system but there are also some freebies on certain region 1 dvd's including Terminator 2.

Before anyone else comes along please let us know what kind of speakers you are using eg floorstanders or satellites and your amp so that we know what kind of bass management is contained within the amp

The questions has been asked ans answered lots of times.
There is a setup page in the FAQ on the HCC, Total DVD and What Video sites which is a good place to start.

Even if you don't have a REL, check out their website, i found a useful doc on setting up their subs which was farily general.
