One of the reasons that I am considering buying a computer is to use PVR software to record TV programmes and then playback onto a digital widescreen tv. I have heard of applications like showshifter and also chips made by manufacturers like Hauppage.

    1. Do I need to get a separate tuner chip installed so that I can record UK digital TV programmes- can anyone provide a few recommedations?

    2. Does showshifter (or a similar application) allow you to record UK cable programmes? Some of my favourite programmes are on cable, so this is vital. Can anyone recommend an application which permits this?

    3. What kind of connections/equipment/software do I need to be able to playback the recorded programmes onto my widescreen tv?
