I borrowed the title (Session 9) from my sister and watched it last night. I had never heard of it until then, and was not excatly aware of what sort of movie this was.

Well in an age of boardroom film making, I was quite impressed with this tight, character driven little psychological tale.

The fact that it was a real insane asylum and a lot of the history mentioned in the film is true, made things even more creepier.

The ending may or may not surprise you, depending on how much of a fan your our of this sort of material. The inclusion of deleted scenes and an alternative ending also put an interesting slant on things. A good example of relevenat extras and not just padding.

My only complaint is that the Canadian disc I was watching only had a 2 channel English track, yet the French was 5.1

I recommend this film and would be interested to see what other peoples comments on it are.

I bought this a while ago and was well impressed - intelligent film making at long last!!!
No CGI - no special effects - just quality acting and directing and, in this Scream generation, genuine frights.
I wasn't too disappointed about the 2 channel stereo soundtrack - sound was not the major factor in this film.

You have to watch the extras on this too - nearly as disturbing as the film!!!

My only response to this film when I saw it was "...so what?". I found it totally underwhelming, lacking in any atmosphere or chills despite the location and the decent cast.
I'm not afraid to admit that I'm in a serious minority in my opinion, but I was finding myself bored more than anything. The pacing was pedestrian at best and offered me very little by way of entertainment.

I'm no philistine and certainly not a big fan of no-brainers, but I struggled to find anything positive in this film.
Thems the breaks, I guess.

I swapped it for Ghostbusters with a friend and he loves it. One mans meat is another mans toothpick.

the hong kong disc's fullscreen. The OAR is 2.35:1
As it was shot on digital video I'm not sure how the Hong Kong disc's ratio works out - if it's unmatted, panned and scanned or what. I'd imagine it's panned and scanned

Oops sorry honey! Well, you don't get something for nothing! ;)

buying pan and scan is worse than getting nothing tho:(

Anyone reckon DDDhouse will take any notice of my cancellation email sent to their customer service?

Speak to them nicely and they should be fine about it. I've cancelled stuff before with no probs. I think kit's a small operation so it shouldn't get lost filtering down through the chain of command

from DDDhouse? did you email them? I just sent them a more detailed email stating I would reorder any titles they could confirm were anamorphic widescreen. I really like using DDDhouse and was just half asleep when I placed the order yesterday.:(

yep. I only ever have contact with them by email. Returning faulty discs/cancelling etc. They're always helpful when I've had a problem

really?

anyway they cancelled the order gawd bless 'em!

they said that none of the four dvds i had ordered were in w/s which I was a bit surprised at.

EDIT: now I remember!

Including Session 9?

Why did they tell me it was in widescreen then?

Oh well, not much point emailing them in future to ask the specs then :(

thinking about it they actually said: "All are not anamorphic widescreen, this order has been cancelled" so maybe they meant not ALL of the titles were w/s... some may have been. better to ask about individual titles than four at a time, it was Rambo who told me their R3 Session 9 was pan and scan.

Or maybe they meant they weren't anamorphic. When I asked if Session 9 was anamorphic, they just said it was "widescreen" which probably meant non-anamorphic.

Oh who knows :D

I can't believe how much the thought of ordering pan and scan material sent me into a panic, it wouldn't have bothered me that much back in the days of video.:D
